Hunter hand ed out several of the lesser fines at Wingham District Court on Decem ber 21. Reginald Carman Brindley of Goderich was fined a total of $1,200 and given a three-year driving suspension after pleading guilty to three alcohol-related motor vehicle charges, the result of three separate incidents which took place in East and West Wawanosh and Ashfield Townships between May and Sep tember of 1988, one of which involved a minor collision with another vehicle at an intersection. Thomas J. MacEwan of RR 2, Gorrie and Donald L. Carter of Wingham were each fined $650 and given 12-month driving suspensions after they each pled guilty to unrelated alcohol-related charges laid last October and November. Neither man had any previous record. Ronald Bain Harris of Seaforth was remanded to April 26 for trial after pleading not guilty to two liquor-related driving charges and one restricted weapons charge laid after he was stopped by an Ontario Provincial Police officer in Grey Township last October. David J. Franken of RR2, Auburn will also appear for trial April 26 after appearing before Judge Hunter at the December court session to plead not guilty to a charge of operating a motor vehicle while disqualified from doing so, the result of an incident which took place in Morris Twp. last July. Judge Hunter also ordered a bench warrant for the arrest of Hydro test coming up Ontario Hydro will conduct a voltage reduction test on Tuesday, January 17, 1989. Electrical voltage on Hydro’s transmission system will be reduced at two intervals during the day. From l:30to2:30p.m., voltage will be reduced by three per cent. Then between the hours of 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. voltage will be reduced by five per cent. During a voltage test, Hydro measures the load reductions that result at the three and five per cent levels, and can locate an operating or customer problems. Voltage reduction can be used in an emergency to help prevent electricity shortages. If a shortage occurs, a five per cent reduction in voltage, distributed over the entire Hydro system, can eliminate up to 500,000 kilowatts of electrical load. That’s equivalent to the electricity needs of more than 180,000 homes. For most customers the effect of these reductions will be impercep tible. Ontario Hydro conducts a voltage reduction test once a year. If the test on January 17is postponed, it will be conducted on Thursday, January 19. Pitch-In JOIN US! Robert Allen Schnaar of Kitchener after he failed to appear on December 21 to be spoken to on four charges laid under the Highway Traffic Act, the result of an incident which took place in Turnberry Twp. last October. Carole E. Scott of Lucknow was fined $240 after pleading guilty to a number of charges of intending to defraud by issuing NSF cheques on several occasions over the past year, including the issuing of one such cheque to pay for gas at Walsh’s Corner Cafe in Blyth last April. In levying the fine, Judge Hunter said he was respecting lawyer Alan Mill’s plea for leniency, during which Mr. Mill said that the charges arose more from Ms. Scott’s “sloppy bookkeep ing” than from any actual intent to defraud. And finally, a charge of posses sion of a narcotic laid last summer against Douglas Ruttan and Valerie Comeau, formerly of Walton, was withdrawn on a technicality.
