Dryers to heat
wash water
Ontario Hydro will test a new heat
pumn/heat recovery system at its
Orangeville trades training centre
next year. The system will use waste
heat from clothes dryers to heat
water for washers at the centre’s
laundry facility.
The training centre operates like a
small hotel, with a commercial-size
laundry facility on-site. Over the
next few months the heat pump
system will be installed to draw
excess heat and humidity from the
dryers and laundry area and use it to
heat water. It’s expected almost all
the energy currently needed to heat
water will be provided by the heat
pump, savingenergyandmaking
the work area more comfortable for
staff.

Brussels Village Council decided
at its January 3 meeting to charge a
$50 fee for a building permit on
commercial renovations. The deci

Brussels Council found a space in
the Brussel’s Library for an extend
ed service office for the Ontario
Provincial Police. A policeman from
the Wingham OPP Detachment will
use the office occasionally during the
week. Services, such as this one, are
starting in various small towns to
allow the community and the police
accessibility to each other.

Councillors decided they were fed
up with the high fees of the auditors
presently employed by the village.
“Other municipalities don’t pay as
much as Brussels does,” Reeve
Workman said. Council decided to
send out letters inviting tenders for
next year’s audit. The cost of the
auditing has been an ever present
thorn in Reeve Workman’s side.
“We’ve taken a real ruckin’ from
these auditors,” he said.

Lion’s Park by planting three trees in
the park. The decision was made
after a concerned Brussel’s resident
offered to take care of the little trees
until they would survive on their
own. A request for a picnic table was
made but Council recalled the last

Several complaints have been
made to council about snowmobile

aren’t complied with, Council says
they will be forced to ban snowmobil-
