Brussels council briefs Commercial building fee set Majestic W! holds euchre The Majestic Women’s Institute held their euchre party in the library on Monday evening with nine tables playing. The prizes were as follows: high lady, Ann Smith; high man, Ross Dryers to heat wash water Ontario Hydro will test a new heat pumn/heat recovery system at its Orangeville trades training centre next year. The system will use waste heat from clothes dryers to heat water for washers at the centre’s laundry facility. The training centre operates like a small hotel, with a commercial-size laundry facility on-site. Over the next few months the heat pump system will be installed to draw excess heat and humidity from the dryers and laundry area and use it to heat water. It’s expected almost all the energy currently needed to heat water will be provided by the heat pump, savingenergyandmaking the work area more comfortable for staff. Brussels Village Council decided at its January 3 meeting to charge a $50 fee for a building permit on commercial renovations. The deci­ sion was made so Council could recover some of the cost of the building inspector’s fee. ***** Brussels Council found a space in the Brussel’s Library for an extend­ ed service office for the Ontario Provincial Police. A policeman from the Wingham OPP Detachment will use the office occasionally during the week. Services, such as this one, are starting in various small towns to allow the community and the police accessibility to each other. »fc He Me de Councillors decided they were fed up with the high fees of the auditors presently employed by the village. “Other municipalities don’t pay as much as Brussels does,” Reeve Workman said. Council decided to send out letters inviting tenders for next year’s audit. The cost of the auditing has been an ever present thorn in Reeve Workman’s side. “We’ve taken a real ruckin’ from these auditors,” he said. 4c afc He 4c afe Council has decided to liven up Lion’s Park by planting three trees in the park. The decision was made after a concerned Brussel’s resident offered to take care of the little trees until they would survive on their own. Council is asking snow- mobilers to not snowmobile on private property. If their wishes aren’t complied with, Council says they will be forced to ban snowmobil- ing in designated areas.***** Councillor Mary Stretton men­ tioned to the Council that the recreation representatives of Brus­ sels were not paid for attending meetings, but recreation represen­ tatives for Grey and Morris town­ ships were paid.
