The Optimists’ motto is “Friend of Youth’’ and they are
committed to encouraging the development of youth as well as
supporting the elderly and the blind. Brussels Optimists have
been especially active in improvements to the ball park.

An organization for servicemen and their families, the Legion is
also active in other community activities from supporting sports
to sponsoring public speaking and essay and poster contests for
students.

As well as raising money to help keep operations of the Legion
halls going, the Ladies Auxiliary also gets involved in other
community fundraising programs. The Blyth Branch, for
instance, recently spearheaded a drive to raise money for a lift for
the handicapped at the Blyth and District Community Centre.

The Women’s Institute is one of the oldest organizations for
women in Canada. The organization provides education and
social interaction for women.

This group, an integral part of community activities in Brussels
for the last decade, offers a catering service for events held at the
B. M. & G. Community Centre with proceeds going to help
support the Centre.
