Red Front Grocery announcd this
this coming week-end, Thursday,
!Friday and Saturday, December 7,
8 and 0, will Mark the official op-
t ening of his recently completed
building on J ,sephine Street, just
east of Josephine Street,
While Mr, Morkley transferred
his operations from his old store
at the corner of Victoria and Jo-
sephine Streets in the Gurney
building to hia new place of busi-
ness about a month ago, the of-
ficial opening has been delayed
to allow for comPletion of final,
details of the building. A new
fluorescent sign in blue, red, yel-
low and white was installed last
Friday and sets off the leant fa-
cade of the new building.
As is customary with events of
this kind, the store is featuring a
number of items at sale prices, and
these appear in the regular's:dyer-
tisement for the store on Page
Eleven of this is. The opening
is also supported' by advertising
from the various, firms which had
a, hand in the construction of •lie
new store.
As well as routine merehandici
at special prices, the Red Front
is also giving away 00 bags of
groceries, 120 loaves of bread and
150 turkey pies. Tickets will be
handed to each customer whdrli
will entitle them to a free chance
on a chest of stainless steel cut-
lery. The winning name will he
drawn on Saturday evening.

The new Red Front Grocery
building is the first of its hind Lo
be built from scratch in Winglilim
and inoorpowttes a host of modern
features. Wilfred White was the
general contractor for the con-
struction of .the new store. The
building measures 40 by 100 feet,
with the s,tore itself 40 by 70 feet.
The remaining 30 feet is ware-
house space with refrigeration
equipment and heating units also
housed in this area.
A parking lot 30 feet wide and
the length of the building runs
down the east side with another 40
feet of paved area across the
front.
The store is built of slag block
construction on 8-foot concrete
foundations, with steel web joists
supporting the roof decking which
carries a bonded tar and gravel
roof. The front of the building is
covered with red porcelain enam-
eled panels. Windows are stand-
ard plate glass. •
The whole area where the build-
lag stands was excavated and sand- 2
filled before a 0 inch reinforced n /11/1
