"Good luck" messages from
Protestant ministers and leaders of
other faiths have been reported by
lhe Roman Catholic Diocese of
London following Bishop Cody's
announcement of a house to house
census throughout Southwestern
Ontario, The enumeration begins
next Sunday, October 29 and will
continue daily till November 5.
Leaders of non-Catholic clerical
Ind ministerial organizations have
been advised of the census and its
purposes, Many friendly and neigh-
borly responses have been receiv-
ed and there has been no unkindly
ministerial reaction.
One minister stated that if the
information had been available in
his town sooner, "we would have
gone out with you as we have been
considering a religious census for
some time."
"We are conversant with the pro-
blems of shepherding in these days
if constant change of residence"
said one minister in expressing
his appreciation of the necessity
for such an enumeration.
Bishop Cody in addressing meet-
'ngs of captains held during the
past week stressed that there will
be no proselytizing or arguing of
religion, The purpose is to count
inwards of 200,000 Catholics and
to invite lapsed Catholics to come
back home, Convinced Protestants,
)rthodox or Jews will be thank-
'd for a courteous hearing, and for
the unchurched with no attach..
;twills there will be an invitation
o attend "Open House" discussions
in the parishes where interest is
indicated.
