Laymen and Wives To Hear Speaker on Crossroads Africa Harvey Putnam, Canifstan, near Belleville, will be the guest speak- er of United Church laymen and their wives next week, The occasion Is the annual .banquet sponsored by Presbytery -men, It will be held, in Ontario St. United Church, Clinton, next Wednesday evening. A small garage owner, Putnam will share his experiences as a member of the "Crossroads Africa" team. His enthusiasm was sparked by Dr, James Robinson, of New York, at the Elgin House confer- once, Dr. Robinson in outlining his work with Atnerlean groups on "Crossroads Africa" was asked.by the United Church to take with him In 1960 a Canadian group. Older than the team members., Putnam paid his own way to join the group. His movies of the ex- perience are part of his presenta- tion. Thomas John Ellis Buried on •Ailonday Thomas John Ellis, 73, died on Thursday at his borne on Edward Street, following an illness of three Years. He Is survived by Ids wife, a daughter, Shirley, at home and a sister, Mrs, Charles (Annabelle) Draper of Morris. Township. Mr. Ellis was born in. Morrl% a sou of the lake Thomas Ellis and Ellen Millet, He attended 5.8, No Morris and took up farming as an occupation, On June 28, 1930, he married Alba E. Hogg, Reg.N., at Mitchell, Ontario, Mr. Ellie was a valued member of St,. Johe's Anglican Church in Brussels, and served as warden for nine years. He took a keen inter- est in the building of the new church after the fire in 1945, He has been a member of St, Paul's, Wingham, since he retired to town in December, 1954. He was also a past master of St.• John A.P. & A.M. Lodge, Brus- sel; and a member of the L,O,L. and R.B.P., Wingham. Masonic and Orange services were held at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon, The futteral was Monday after- noon from. the R, A. Currie & Sans funeral 'home with Rev, C. F, John- son officiating, Interment was in Brussels. The pallbearers were Wallace Agar, John McKibbon, Roy Cous- ins, Archie Engel, Roy Sellers and Gordon Embury, Nephews, carried the floral tri- butes: They, were Lorne Draper, Bill, Elgin, and Raymond Hogg, Murray Jenkins and Arnold An- derson, Robert A. McInnes Was 73. Years Robert Aytourt McInnes passed away in Wingham General Hos- pital on Friday, Oct,. 6th after a lengthy illness. Mr, McInnes, who was born at Langside 73- years ago September 6th, was one of a fam- ily of 12 children born to the late Daniel McInnes •and Mary Ann Falconer, •ten of whom -survive. On April 9th, 1919, he married Marie Sherwood, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Sher- woOd df Ashfield. They lived for a •short time at Langside, later moving to Ashfield, In 1930 they moved to Culross where they have since lived. Mr. McInnes was of a kind and jovial nature, always willing to lend as helping hand whets it was needed. The multitude of friends who passed through the funeral home bore testimony to the esteem in which the deceased was held. He was a member of Knox Pres- byterian. Church, Teeswater. The funeral was held from the W. G. Church funeral home, Tees- water, on Thanksgiving Day with Rev, T. J, McKinney officiating. Interment was in Teeswater ceme- tery, Pallbearers were Gordon Stobo, Frank Woods, George Mc. '<ague, James Walker, Miles Mc- Millan and Hardie Simpson. The floral tributes were carried by 'Wesley Young, James Harkness, Hugh McKague and Walden Mof- fatt. Mr. McInnes is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. John (Mary) ,Thornton of Gorrie; two sons, William at home and Daniel of Holyrood, and nine grandchild- ren. There are five sisters and five Wthrrs, V rs., .William, (Minnie) McKee, Richmond, B.C.; William of Walkerton; James of Whitechurch; Dr. Daniel• of Stratford; Mrs, J. (Fanny) Collins, Shropshire, Eng- land; Thoinas of Gorrie; Mrs. Alex (Annie) Butler, Goderich; Mrs. Gordon (Sydney) Jamieson of God. erich; Mrs. Orville (Lizzy) Tiffin, Whitechurch and John of Holy- rood. He was predeceased by one brother, Joseph, in 1955. Friends and relatives attended from London, Stratford, Wood- stock, Caledon, Wingham, White- church, Lucknow, Goderich, Dun- gannon; Kincardine, Walkerton, Durham and Gorrie. Mrs. Harold Currie Buried at Whighatn Funeral service was held on Tuesday of last week for Mrs. Har- old Currie from the R. A. Currie & Sons funeral home with inter- ment in the Wine-tam Cemetery, Rev, H. Andersen officiated and the pallbearers were Chat). Born in East Wawartoah Town- Ship, Esther Irene Deacon was a daughter of the hate Stenuel Des- eon and Margaret Davidson, She Married Mr, Currie on Feb, 15, 1926. Mr. and Mrs, Currie had two children, Laura (Mrs. Richard Dee. eon), Pat, 2 Atlas and Doritat (Mrs. Ken Petteplace), 'Nese/get, who survive, with their father. There are also two brothers, Prod, of R.R. 5, Wingham and James cote of COnatiach, Sash,; and three slaters, Ees4ie (Mrs, Ray Ilidingten) Detroit; Margaret (Mrs. Edwin Day) of Corns and Marie (Mrs. Gilbert Seitz), Troy, 1Vtieh. In Calgary Hospital A Calgary resident for almost 50 years, Charles Simpson Om, -V, died in hospital there and funeral services were 'held Wednesday with burial in queen's Park ceme- tery. Mr. Orr was born in Wingham in 1895, going West in 1910, He lived two years in.
