ST. HELENS —A surpme party
wan held on. Saturdap evening In
honour of Mr. and Mrs, Earl .Ourn-
in on the occasion, of their silver
wedding anniversary, Present for
the occasion were the 9th neighbors
and the Gaunt and Durnin relatives,
numbering 55.
Mrs. Dutnin was the former
Madeleine Gaunt,
The evening was spent in playing
progressive euchre. High prizes
went to Mrs. Frank McQuillin and
Albert Taylor, with consolation
prizes going to Lois Johnston and
William Rutherford,
Albert Taylor read an address of
good wishes to the bride and groom
of 25 years. Loren Durnin present-
ed the couple with a lamp, step
table, coffee table and magazine
rack. Earl and Madeleine ex-
pressed their thanks .a.fici appreci-
ation for being remembered on this
happy occasion. A bountiful lunch
was served by the ladies,
BANNER COUNTIES WINNER—The regional red

Ayrshire Club was held at the Brussels Fair last

Mrs. J. Winter Was
Active in Church
And Community
FORDWICH—Mrs. Marion Eliza_
Beth. Winter passed away in Wing-
ham Hospital Tuesday of last week
in her 70th year after a lengthy ill-
ness.
Born and educated in Port Hope
she was the daughter of the late
Henry Jewison and Celia Randell.
Her marriage to John Winter
took place in October, 1930, After
her marriage she resided with her
husband on lot 31, con, 8, Howick,
until retiring to Fordwich in April,
1960.
She was of a kindly disposition
and held in high esteem by all who
knew her. She took an interest in
the affairs of the community and
was a member of the Fordwich Un-
ited Church, past president of the
W.A., past worthy mistress of the
L.O.B.A., and at the time of her
death was an honorary director of
the agricultural society.
Besides her husband she leaves
to mourn two sisters, Mrs. R. E.
Adams and Miss E, A. Jewison of
Keystone Heights, Fla,
The L.O.B.A, held a short ser-
vice at the Moir funeral home on
Wednesday evening.
The funeral service took place in
the Fordwich United Church and
was conducted by Rev. A, C. Coles
and Rev. J. W. Hird. "The Lord
Is My Shepherd" was sung by Mrs.
Ken Graham, Mrs. George Rich-
ards and Miss Minnie McElwain,
Interment was in Fordwich ceme-
tery. Pallbearers were James Ste-,
venson, Elton Zeigler, William
Campbell, Aaron Dicke'rt, Lindsay
BroWn and James Warrell. Flower
bearers were David Dickert, Alex
Donaldson, Walter Harrifield and
Stanley Bride.

Mr. and Mrs, Don Bridge spent
tile week-end with friends in To-
ronto.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom McClement
and Mrs. Ida Gallagher were in
London one day last week. Mrs.
McClement and Mrs. Gallagher
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Les Bur-
rows and Mrs. M. Strome while
Tom attended a Purina meeting.

Mr, and Mrs. Lorne Humphrey, of
Hespeler, spent Thursday with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. William A.
Humphrey,
Miss W, D. Rutherford returned
on. Friday from a holiday in Evans-
ton, Illinois.
Mr. and Mrs, Gordon McPher-
son accompanied Mr, and Mrs. Fred
Thompson and family, of Exeter,
to Western 'Canada.
Mrs. Wm. Gallaher, of Norwood,
spent the week-end with her bro-
ther, Mr. Wallace Miller, and Mr.
and Mrs. Allan Miller.
Anniversary services in the St.
Helens church will be held on- Oc-
tober 15th with Rev..Mr. Kaiser
and Rev. Mr. Strapp in charge.

ON ANNIVERSARY
FORDWI011— A charivari and
surprise party honoring Mr., and
Mrs. Crosby Sothern on the occa-
sion of their 40th anniversary was
held Wednesday night at their
home.
Members of the family included
their daughter, Mrs, W. M. (Rose-
mary) Campbell, Mr. Campbell and
little son, Jimmy, of Toronto, and
cousins, Mr, and Mrs. William
son, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wilson, Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Wilson and Miss
Phylllis Wilson, all of Fordwich,
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Adams of Wrox-
eter and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Grant of Teeswater..
During the evening Mrs. Cecil
Wilson, on behalf of the group,
presented the couple with a beauti-
ful wall mirror. Their only grand-
child, Jimmy Campbell, presented
them with an electric frypan and
bouquet of mums. A bounteous
lunch was served from the table
centred by a beautifully decorated
wedding cake, the gift of Mrs. Jack
Wilson.

FORDWICH—A number from
here attended a presentation and
dance on Friday night in honor
of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mulvey (Nan-
cy Sothern), newlyweds, which was
held in the Belmore community
hall.
Mrs. Earl Fitch read the address
and Jim Renwick presented the
couple with a vacuum cleaner and
a purse of money. Bill and Nancy
thanked everyone and music for
dancing was supplied by Felkel.'s
orchestra.

dress and Mrs. Jim Robinson pre-
sented the young couple with a

Thirteen Couples
Attend Meeting
The Couples' Club of St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church met in the
church basement on Tuesday eve-
ning for the monthly meeting with
13 couples in attendance. The eve-
ning opened with the call to wor-
ship and the singing of a hymn.

Near Mitchell
ST, HELENS--On Friday even-
ing friends and neighbours of Ken
Purves, Mrs. Lizzie Bolt and Mrs.
Annie Irwin visited the Purves
home for a surprise farewell party.
The evennig was spent in playing
cards. Charles McQuillin showed
slides of his recent 'trip to Western
Canada,
Fred McQuillin read an .address
of good wishes and as a remem-
brance of the many years spent in
the St. Helens community, Bill Mc- I,
Quillin presented them with a card'
table and chair set and a smoker.
The Purves family expressed
thanks and invited everyone to visit
them in their new home near
Mitchell.
