Two Occasions
A surprise party was held on
Sunday afternoon at. the borne of
Mr. and Mrs, Cart Pennington,
TeeSwater, to celebrate their 35th
wedding anniversary which is on
September 22nd,
The afternoon was spent in visit-
ing and contests and races for the
younger folk. During the afternoon
the happy couple was presented
with a nylon frieze upholstered
platform rocker, a walnut step-up
end table and a brass magtizine
rack by their family "and several
nie who were in attendance..
Among those present were Mrs.

Strong, of Gorrie, .who is in her
90th year. They also received many
cards of congratulations,
A bountiful picnic supper was en-
joyed on the lawn, The table was
centered with .a, lovely decorated
! wedding Cake for the celebration,
also a birthday cake for Mrs. Pen-
nington, who celebrated her birth-
day on Saturday.

i family of six children, four sons,

Calf Scramble
WHITECHURCII—Mahy In this
district were interested ih the calf
scramble at the London. Pair on
Wednesday afternoon. We are
pleased to report that Jim Wool-
cock, son of Mr. and MM.'John
Woolcock, and Lorne Baird, son of
Mr, and Mrs. Russel Baird, were
among the boys who brought their
calves over the line. Last year their
brothers, Ian Wooleock and Leon-
ard Baird were winners in the calf
scramble.
Charles Eadie, son of Mr. and
Mrs. David Sadie, was anteing the
boys whO tried and was given a
travelling bag.
Mr and Mrs, Harvey Adams call-
ed on Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Adams on
Sunday afternoon.

a poem, "Leisure", The motto, "In-
dustry is the parent of success",
prepared by Mrs. W. Davisson, was
given by Mrs, A. Munro. Mr.
Thomas Burke read a POgmi- "Man
Builds His Castles Fair and High",
The roll call, a clipping of agri-
cultural interest,'brought a good
response and such places as the
Canadian West, the- 'Yukon and
Ontario were mentioned. Mrs, G,
Greig had charge of the topic, "A
Woman's Place in Agriculture".
She said women of today seem to
:be a necessity In agriculture as
they serve in the Federation, Farm
,Forums, horriek, on farms, etc.
A committee was named to look
after the fiowerbed at the cemetery
:this fall. Two delegates, Mrs. Wm,
Wright and Mrs. L. Douglas, were
appointed to take the leadership
training coupe, "Focus on Finish-
es", to be. held in Wingham on
October 19 and 20, A gift of ten
dollars is to be sent to the School
for Retarded Children at Wingham.
An invitation is to be extended
to Fordwich Institute to he guests
for the October meeting, Oct. 4th.

Dies at Her. Home
GORRIE — Mrs, arati Adeline
Wood, '73, .died suddenly at her
lhome on Sunday, September 40,
Mrs. Wood was born June 6, 1888,
in Carrick Township,' the daughter
of 'the late -George Holtzinare and
his wife, Priscilla Bilger. She Mar-
ried Joseph Wood on September 4,
1907, who predeceased her in 1:954.
They had farmed in Howieli Town-
ship for many years prior to moving
to Gorrie in 1950.
She was a member of the Gorrie
United Church.
Surviving, are one son, Rebert, of
Howlek, a daughter, Mrs. ',taxi
(Mabel) Toner; two .brothers, Sam-
uel Holtzman, Clifford and PIOry
Holtzman, Listowell. five sisters,
Mrs, Annie McPhail, of Cilifftird;
Mrs, Priscilla Bell, 'Walkerton;
Mrs. Lydia Heath, Galt; Mita, Dan-
iel (Mary) keSter of •'Milchney;
Mrs. Marian Kinzie of Swift Citr-
rent, 'Sask., and two grandchildren,
Funeral services were held at:the
Moir funeral home, Tuesday„ and
conducted by Rev. Fred W. Taylor
of Gorrie United 'Church. Pall-
bearers were Jack Ferguson, Har-
vey Wright, Alex Edgar, Claus
'laritflia, George Brown and Robert
Stephens. Burial was in Gorrie
Cemetery.

and Mrs. Willard of Toronto on
Sunday.
