A delicious lunch was served by
Mrs. DeWitt Miller and her com-
mittee, during which time a short
program was presented. Mrs. Edith
Joynt of Lucknow sang and Mrs.
Maigaret McNay, also of Luck-
now, gave a couple of readings.

Couple Celebrates
40th Anniversary
On Friday evening of last week,
Mr. and Mrs, Kenneth MeKague,
R. R. 2, Wingham, entertained at
their home in honor of the latter's
parents, Mr, and Mrs. Hugh Gil-
mour, Wingham, on the occasion
of their 40th wedding anniversary,
which was on February 16th.
The guests present included Mr.
and Mrs. William Ford, Mr. and.
Mrs. Edgar Harrison, Mrs. Alkin
Hastings, Mr. and Mrs. John Me-
Kague, and Mr, and Mrs. Eldred
Nichol, all of Wingham and dis-
trict. Alkin Hastings, and Mr. and
Mrs, Jos. Smith were unable to
attend.
The pleasant evening was spent
playing court whist with high
scores going to Mrs. William Ford
and Edgar Harrison. Following

There were about 90 members
and guests in attendance last
Tuesday evening when Mrs, Audrey
Elliott of Sterling, W.G.M, of Grand
Chapter of Ontario, paid a visit to
Huron Chapter 89. 0.E,S., Wing-
ham. Other officers of Grand
Chapter of Ontario present were
Mrs. Beryl Moffatt, Grand Elceta,
of Watford, and Mrs. Jean Hayes,
Grand Chaplain, of Kitchener,
Gordon Murray, Grand Chapter
Benevolent Committee, of Wood-
stock, also attended.
There were seven presiding ma-
trons, two presiding patrons, fif-
teen past matrons and six past pa-
trons at the meeting.

On Television News
.1 oh n Strong, news editor of
CKNX was guest speaker at the
regular meeting of the Wingham
Kinsmen Club last Friday evening
held In the Queens Hotel. Club
business was held to a minimum,
with only routine affairs being
talked, The meeting was a joint
gathering with members of the
Harriston Club on hand as visitors.
Mr. Strong outlined the history
of news gathering and the origin
of radio broadcasting control and
regulations. He told how the na-
tional news' gathering service came
into being for. the broadcasting in-
dustry, and its development up to
the present time. He said that the
time factor of getting news on the
wire and then on 'the air has now
become nearly a science, He claim-
ed that CKNX.measures up to al-

ada and subscribes to the Canadian
Association of Broadcasters' code
of ethics. Speaking of future de-
velopments he sugge'sted that the
day will come when color TV will
be broadcast in Winghain and
video tape projectors will be in use.
Following his remarks the
speaker showed a movie in color
which documented the news gath-
ering facilities of the local station,
It was a half hour show, had been
produced in the station, and was
backed by recorded commentary of
the speaker.
He was introduced by Cy Rob-
inson and thanked by . Murray
Taylor.

reports that on Saturday he noticed
a robin perched 'in a 'maple tree

three weeks' vacation at Daytona

ner was held at the home of the
parents,
The family presented them with
a La-Z-Boy chair and a - basket of
flowers from the grandchildren.
They were the recipients of best
wishes, congratulations and other
lovely gifts froM friends and rela-
tives,
Mrs. Gilmour is the former Reba
Boyd, daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. John J. Boyd, of the 4th con-
cession, Cuirass Township. Mr. and
Mrs. Gilmour were married at the
home of the bride's mother in
Wingham on February 16, .1921, by
the late 'Dr. D. Perrie, minister
St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
They have three daughters, Mrs.
Donald B. (Marion) Campbell,
Listowel, Mrs. Mac G. (Marjorie
L.) Smith, of Molcsworth, and
Mrs. Kenneth C. McKague, of
Turnberry. A daughter, 'Grace
Catherine, passed away" in July,
1949, They also have six grand-
children. • outside his window,
Reach Highest Peak,
MDAC Contribution
Despite a period of mild econo-
mic recession in Canada, one vol-
untary health association of Ca-
nada reports that its donations in
1960 had reached the highest peak
in its history, • with contributions
totalling over $337,000.
Arthur Minden, QC., president
of the Muscular Dystrophy Associ-
ation of Canada, attributed, the in-
crease to a growing concern among
the public over the menace of mus-
cular dystrophy to Canadian child-
ren. "Both the public, and the re-
search scientists,'.' said Mr. Min-
den, "seem to be determined that
the mystery of the cause of this
disease shall not long remain un-
solved."
Canadian fire departments have
always been the chief ,raisers for
TvIDAC and in the 1960 campaign
250 fire departments carried out
door-to-door canvasses and other
fund raising measures. Service
club's Scouts and Guides also were
active on behalf of the Association,
and 330 communities took part in
the campaign.
"We shall now be able to carry
out a considerable expansion of our
research program," said Mr. Min-
den, "and because most of it is in
the field of basic biochemical
research, we shall be adding in-
valuable data to the general pool
of knowledge used by reasearch
scientists in added fields of medi-
cal investigation."

spent Monday of this week in Tor-
onto.
--Dr. and Mrs, James I-Iall and
family, of Port Colborne, were
week-end visitors with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. James Henry. They
returned home on Sunday, accom-
panied by Mrs. James Currie and
daughter, Ansley, who are spend-
ing the week with them.
---Mrs. Ross Wormworth has
been a patient in the Wingham
General 'Hospital for the past ten
days.
Martha Warwick isvisit-
ing cousins at London, Springfield
and Port Dover.
--Mr. Eugene Devereaux, • of
Stratford, spent the week-end with
his parents, 1VIr. and Mrs Gus
Devereaux, St. Augustine.
--Mrs. Alex Reid has been a pa-
tient in the Wingham Hospital
since early last week.
--Janice Ohm, four '- year - old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Ohm, was taken to Wingham Hos-
pital on Monday morning for tests.
—Elmer Stainton, Swift Current,
Sask,, visited 'for three days last
week with his brother, Percy, and
Mrs. Staintori. He was accompan-
ied by' a brother-in-lad', Frank
Innis, of Black Water, Ont. This
was Elmer's first visit to Wing-
ham in -nine years.
