Day of Prayer
FORDWICH--The World Day of
Prayer was observed In the' Ford-
wich United Church on Friday.
Members from Trinity Anglican,
Brethren in Christ and the Luth-
eran Church took part. Mrs. Ken
Graham led in the call to worship.
Mrs. Ruby Foster and Mrs, Ken
Graham gave the roll call of the
nations, and Mrs. Foster also led

Honors Bride-Elect
FORDWICH----Miss Marjory Fos-
ter was hostess Wednesday night
for a shower in honor of Miss El-
izabeth Patterson, bride-elect of
this month. A decorated umbrella
was hung with cards, with a verse
written on each, which the girls
read to the bride-to-be. She was
presented with a sum of money.
Contests were enjoyed during
the evening and a delicious`lunch
Mr, and Mrs, Carl Stewart and
Douglas spent the week-end with
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sothern. Miss
Nancy Sothern of Kitchener also
spent the week-end with her par-
ents.
Mr. and Mrs. Ira Schaefer and
Mr, and Mrs, Wray Cooper left on
Saturday on a three weeks' motor
trip to Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reid and
Jimmy and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Reid

the 61st annual fair convention as
a delegate from the Howick Agri-
cultural Society to be held in the
King Edward Hotel in Toronto on
February 22nd and 23rd.

the. Rural Municipalities conven-
tion held on Feb. 13th and 14th in
the King Edward Hotel, Toronto,
Mrs. Earny Darcey, Miss Flor-
ence Leppington and Mr, Carl
Darcey spent the week-end with
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Welsh in To-
ronto.
Mrs, Roy Simmons and Mr. and
Mrs. Lyle Simmons attended the
christening or the former's grand-
son, Brian Earle Wildfang, on Sun-
day in Toronto.
Mr. and .Mrs. James Vittie re-
ceived word Thursday night that
Mr. Harry Nixon had passed away
suddenly in Winnipeg. Mrs. Vit.-
tio left Toronto by train Saturday
night. She was accompanied to
Toronto by Mrs. Bill Sothern
Mr. Carl Stewart. The funeral will
be held Monday in Winnipeg. The
two ladies are sisters.
The following pupils appeared on
Circle 8 Ranch program on CKNX
TV Wednesday night: Elaine Mil-
ler, Leslie Campbell, Marian Du-
ket and-Marjory Ruttan, Bill Cars-
well, Doug Gibson, Barry Mat-
thews and Bobby Campbell. Helen
Johnson was their caller. They
were accompanied by their teach-
er, Mrs. Lyle Murray. All are
from the Fordwich senior room.
Zone Commander's
Official Visit
FORDWICH—The Howlett Le-
gion Auxiliary met in the Legion
rooms for the February meeting.
The president, Mrs. Audrene
Templeman, was in charge. An in-
vitation received from the Brus-
sels branch, to meeet with them
on March 2nd was accepted. Twen-
ty dollars was voted to the Bur-
sary Fund and a past president's
badge was ordered. The mystery
prize was won by Mrs. Emma
Williamson, donated by Mrs. Geo.
Pittendreigh.
Plans were made to order a
past presidents' plaque for the hall.
The Zone Commander, Mrs. Wil-
liam McCann, made her official
visit and told the group how much
the Legion Auxiliaries are helping
older citizens by building low ren-
tal houses.
The rally this year will be held
May 10th in the Wingham High
School. Mrs. McCann was pre-
sented with a gift by the presi-
dent. Plans were completed for
a pot luck supper at the April
meeting. The meeting adjourned
and a social half hour was spent.
Gifts Presented
To Young Couple
Miss Anna Mae Doubledee, bride-
elect, was honoured by girl friends
at the home of Miss Patricia Hey-
wood, Wingham, assisted by Misses
Judy Renwick and Marie Johnston.
About 50 girls attended and pre-
sented her with miscellaneous gifts.
Another shower was held in the
Belmore community centre, where
friends and neighbours gathered.
Miss Diane Fitch read the address
and miscellaneous gifts were pre-
sented.
The same evening the Belmore
1-11 Club girls presented her with
a crystal dream flower bowl.
The groom-elect, .Robert John
Harold Moffat, London, was also
honoured by friends at a gathering
at the home of James Wild, Wing-
ham assisted by Paul Rintoul and
Keith Finnigan. He was presented
with a pair of step tables.

Top Prize at Paisley
A rink skipped by Clark Ren-
wick along with Mr. and Mrs. Win,
Elliott and Mrs. Lloyd Montgomery
took top prize on the eleven o'clock
draw in Paisley's mixed bonspiel,
Saturday, where 28 rinks competed.

Quite a number of local ladies
attended the World Day of Prayer
service held in the Belmore United
Church on Friday. The guest
speaker was Miss Bertha Zimmer-
man, a missionary from South Af-
rica, who is on furlough at the
present time.
Mrs. Gordon McKee received
word on Sunday afternoon that her
brother, Mr. Harvey Dahms, of
Mild may, while on his way to
church Sunday morning slipped on
the ice and in the fall sustained a
compound fracture of the left
ankle. He was removed to the
Bruce County Hospital and is be-
ing attended by Dr. James Laws,
of Mildmay,
The first crow was seen in these
parts by several residents on Fri-
day. We hope this is a sign that
spring is not too far off.
Mr. Herman Casemore, who op-
erates the local seed-cleaning
plant, commenced operations on
Saturday for the annual run on
seed-cleaning, which is a sure sign
that spring is just around the
