attended the "Scottish Night" at
the hall here on Friday evening.
Mrs. Wm. Rutherford preside& at
the piano and Mrs. Andrew Gaunt
led. in community singing.
Miss W. a Rutherford gave a
sketch of the life of Robbie. Burns,
A musical trio by Mary Kaye,
Patsy and Laurie MeCharles, of
Olivet, with accompaniment by
their mother, Mrs. Sandy Me-
Charles, delighted the audienee.
Scottish readings by Mrs, Jim Me-
Naughton, of Lucknow, and Mrs,
Gordon McPherson were enjoyed,
Shiela, McQuillan played two sel-
ections on the piano. Joan McKen-
zie, of Locknow, delighted the aud-
ience with several Scottish dances,
John McRae and Sandy McQuillan
set the Scottishornood with several
bagpipe selections. Mr, McRae also.
sang in Gaelic and some Scottish
melodies.
Mrs. K W. Rice and Mr. Lorne
Forster favoured with vocal solos,
Gladys McDonald had a humorous
reading "When Ma Has. the Insti-
tute', FolloWing the program lunch
was served and. Farrier's orchestra
played for the dance that followed.

BLUEVALE—Thr Women's In-
stitute convened at the home of
'Mrs, Frank Stamper on Thursday
afternoon when Mrs, Spading
Johnston presided at the historical
meeting, with Mrs. Alex Corrigan,
convener.
The roll call was answered by
quoting a verse from an old school
reader. Correapqndence was read
by the secretary, Mrs, W. Pea-
cock including thank you notes
from Christmas cheer recipftts.
Mrs. Alex. Corrigan spoke on
"The St. Lawrence Seaway". There
are 078,000 square miles in the
St, Lawrence system whith in-
cludes the river and the three
largest fresh water lakes in the
world, as well as canals. Liver-
pool is 2,780 miles from Montreal
and wheat and other cargoes can
be carried through the seaway
right from the head of Lake
Superior , to Liverpool. Whole
towns were moved to make way
for the seaway, Increased electric
power as well as transportation
has been provided, Besides wheat,
iron ore, coal, petroleum are car-
ried,
Mrs. M: L. Aitken gave recent
current events. Plans were made
for a euchre party.
Refreshments were served by
the committee, Mrs. Raymond El-
liott, Mrs. Wendell Stamper and
Mrs. C. B. Hoffman, assisting ti-x•
hostess.

assistant leader, Joan McFarlane,
met on Saturday morning at the
home of their leader, Mrs. Jack
Nicholson, in the first meeting of
their 4-H Junior Homemaking
Club, for the project, "Cottons
May Be Smart".
The election of officers was
