week at her home here, and on
Monday started as a stenog'r'apher
at Peppler's furniture factory in
Hanover.
Mr. and. Mrs. Aligns Falconer
visited on Sunday with her grand-
parents, Mr. awl Mrs. Pert Jack-
son, of Bluth.
Little Carey Ptirrion, sell of Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. 4. Purann, was a Pa-
tient in Wingham Hospital dyer
the week-end, He had !burned his
thumb, and then got infection in it.
Donald Huffman spent the week-
end at the' home of his brother, Mr.
Elmer Huffman, of Lucan.
Mrs. Reuben Tiffin has been
under the doctor's care during the
past week,
Ray Robinson, son of Mr. and.
Mrs. Calvin Robinson, has been laid
up with measles and little Evelyn
Bieman also 'has the measles.
Mr. E. E. Walker and Mr, Elmer
Ireland were called to Goderich
On jury duty for Monday, However,
the duty • was cancelled, and
although some of those were neti-
fled, some of them made •the trip
to Goderich leaving home before
they got the message.

Blyth, and Mr. and•Mrs. Mac Car-
diff, of Brussels, visited pn Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Rintoul.
Mr. Gary Morton, of Kincardine,
conducted the service in ,the Pres-
byterian Church here on Sunday.
The Mission Band was held at,the
home of Mrs. Earl Caslick on Sat-
urday, and Mrs. Johnston Conn,
Mrs. Walter Lott, and Mrs. U, D.
McDonald attended the Maitland
Presbyterial meeting in Wingham
Presbyterian Church on Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Martin and
Sandra, of Stratford, visited on
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Howard

Mrs. Gordon Rintoul, on Sunday.
Mrs. Albert McQuillin is spending
a few days this week with Luck-
now friends.
The villagers held a meeting on
Monday night at the „home of Mr.
and Mrs. E, H. Groskorth on the
subject of drilling for a water sup-
ply for the village and for fire pro-
tection. This has •been a live issue
her for -some time, as water has
been very scarce this past summer.
Miss Elaine Conn is teaching this
week in a Woodstock school.
Mrs. Robt. Aitcheson and child-
ren and Mrs. Dowling visited on
Monday with the latter's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rooney, of
Mount Forest.
Mr. and Mrs. Adam Johnston
and Myrtle, and Mr And Mrs.
Gordon Jamieson, of Goderieh,
visited on Sunday with .Mr. and
Mrs. Robt. McInnis, Teeswater, and
called on Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Mc-
Innis and' Mr. and Mrs. Orville
Tiffin in the village.
Mr. and Mrs, Clarence Chamney
and Miss Claire were in Owen
Sound on Sunday. Miss Chamney
will teach in a school there this
week, Mr. Albert Bieman accom-
panied them and visited with his
mother, Mrs. Wm. Bieman.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Mathers en-
tertained her trustees and their
wives, Mr. and 'Mrs. John Ganbt,
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ross, Mr. and
Mrs. 'Hugh Simpson, Mr. Milian
Moore, secretary, and Mrs. Moore,
at an evening dinner et their home
Morris on Saturday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd WhYtOeh and
children of Nast Wawanosh visited
on Sunday with' Mr. and Mrs. Car-
man Whytock, of 'Mokpo,
Mrs, Wm. Henry, Frances and
Wayne spent the week-end at Tor-
onto and visited with Mr. Henry in
the General. Hospital. Mr. Henry
expects to return home next week-
end.

WHITECHURCH — The regular
monthly meeting of the Women's
Instittite was held on Wednesday
last at the home of Mrs. Victor
Emerson with 23 ladies present and
with the president, Mrs. Garnet
Farrier, presiding.
After the opening exercises, many
thank' you letters were read from
the elder citizens, who appreciated
the Christmas parcels of treats
made up at, that time, The treasur-
er showed a fair balance On the
books.
The following business was dis-
cussed: a prize to be given for the
one attending most meetings dur-
ing the Institute year; funds to be
raised by the different groups for
the painting of the interior of the
hall and the south group decided
to hold a euchre in the hall on Fri-
day of this week with good prizes;
and with all members helping with
lunch.
The roll call was answered with
"What's My Beef?” Mrs. Russell
Ross galre a splendid talk on Re-
solutions and said that people
should resolve to 'be .more kind and
thoughtful. Mrs, .Albert McQuillin
gave a reading "Little Breeches",
and Mrs. Jas. McInnis spoke on
Resolutions of Institute members,
to use tact, patience and common
Sense at the meetings. Mrs. J. D.
Beecroft gave a reading.
•The national anthem closed the
meeting and all enjoyed the social
half hour during pinch.

WHITECHURCH — A meeting ELECTS OFFICERS _
of the Whitechurch Library Board
was held on Monday evening at the
home of Mrs. George Fisher with
Mr. Albert 'Paftison presiding.
The librarian, Mrs. D. Willis:
gave the report for the four
change of books received and the
change of the pool books will come
in March. A good discussion of the
new library plan was held.
Mrs. Willis reported 1190 books
read this year compared with 1277
read last year.
The following committees were
appointed: Ways and Means, Mrs.
Ezra Scholtz, Mrs. Victor Emer-
son, Mrs. James McInnes and Mrs.
John Gaunt; library board com-
mittee, Mrs. ,Dawson Craig, Mrs,
Garnet Farrier, the local teacher
and from the Women's Institute,
Mrs, J. G. -Gillespie; auditor, Mrs.
George Fisher. The books showed a
balance of $22.80. A family ticket to
the library costs 25c, Why not join

end in Victoria Hospital, London,
for a ,check-up.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weber and
family visited on Sunday at the
home of his sister, Mrs. Harry
Lindenschmidt, of Walkerton.
Miss Karen Groskorth teaches
this week at Guelph and made the
trip with several Lucknow teach-
ers, who went with Mr. Jack Ken-
nedy.
Mrs, Brian Boothman, of Hazel-
dean, Alta., phoned her sister, Mrs.
Thos. Morrison, on Saturday and
-spoke of the grand spiing weather
they were enjoying out there.
Mr. Herbert Laidlaw was able to
leave Wingham Hospital on Thurs-
day and go, to the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Jack Kerr,. of
Morris.
Mrs. W. J, Watt is a patient in
Wingham Hospital this week-end.
Brenda and Stephen Ritchie have
been staying with Mr. and Mrs.
Kenneth Johnston, of Clinton, and
they with the children visited with
Mr. and Mrs. Gershom Johnston
on Sunday.
Miss Beverly Gaunt, of London,
spent the week-end with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gaunt,
and Miss .Norma Forster, of Lon-
don, spent/ the week-end with her
father, Mr, Wm. Forster.

Gee on Monday night and the fol-
lowing officers were duly elected:

The Evening Mission Circle of
the Baptist Church held its annual
meeting last Thursday at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Hildebrand.
Mrs. Bruce MacLean was re-
elected president for the coming
year. Other officers and commit-
tees elected were vice presidents,
Mrs. Richard Kilpatrick and Mrs.
Merrill Cantelon; secretary and
press representative, Mrs. Jake
Hildebrand; treasurer, Mrs. George
Hotchkiss; pianist, Mrs. Don -Sin-
clair; assistant pianist, Mrs. M
Eadie; sewing committee, Mrs; Roy
Burchill, Mrs, Henry Selling; hos-
pital sewing convener, Mrs. George
Hotchkiss; lunch committee, Mrs.
Richard Kilpatrick, Mrs. Arthur

Miss Mary Stapleton; visiting com-

Prior to the election the regular
meeting was held with Mrs. Mac-
Lean presiding and opening the
meeting with prayer. -Letters were
read from Mr. and Mrs. Ron Pat-
terson in Japan by Mrs. Frank
Collar, Miss Laura Collar in Africa
by Mrs. MacLean, Mr. and Mrs.
James Green in Africa. Mrs. Rich-
ard Kilpatrick read a letter con-
cerning the work of the Sudan In-
terior Mission.
Mrs. Roy Burchill gave a synop-
sis of the book on the life of Ann
Judson, missionary to Burma.
"Thou Shalt Not Be Afraid for the
Terror by Night" was the title of
a reading given by Miss Mary
Stapleton. The devotions were
given by Mrs. Don Sinclair, "He
that goeth forth and weepeth".
Following, the meeting a social time
was enjoyed.
Film Is Shown
At A.Y.P.A. Meeting
The A.Y.P.A. of St. Paul's Angli-
can. Church held the election of
officers at the meeting a week ago.
Diane Deyell will be president for
the year, Malcolm MacKay, vice-
president, Lynda Templeman, sec-
retary and Barbara Hall, treasurer.
At - the meeting held Sunday
evening of this week the new
officers took over their duties.
Miss DeYell opened the worship
service with prayer arid the sec-
retary and treasurer gave their re-
ports. It was decided to sell pens
to raise funds to carry on the
year's activities.
An invitation was received and
accepted to attend a Huron Dean-
ery skating party in Brussels on
January 25, Broomball will be
played after skating.
Rev. C. F. Johnson showed a
film, "The Bible around the World".
The pictures showed translators at
work, so that the Bible may be
distributed to more people of th,,
world. Contrast was made be-
tween North .Arnerlea, where Bibles
are plentiful arid each person may
have one of his own, and countries
Where it is hard to obtain the
printed Gospel. In many places
people feel fortunate to be allowed
one Bible to a family.
