A native of Gorrie. Leslie F.
McLaughlin, died in 'Oshawa Gen-
eral Hospital on Wednesday, Jan-
uary 4, He suffered a heart attack
an Tuesday and died early the
following morning.
Mr. McLaughlin, a son •of the
late Mr. and Mrs, Robert McLaugh-
lin, was •born in. Gorrie in 1885.
He had resided in Oshawa since
1922, when he founded the Mc-
Laughlin (Coal and. Supplies Ltd.,
in March of that year, which has
grown into tiN large concern, He was
still active the business.
He was well-known to many in
this 'district, having visited fre-
quently In the area during Fecent
years, He was active in Rotary
and church work and was promin-
ent In Masonic circles. Mr. Mc-
Laughlin was a 33rd Degree Mason
and his titles included Grand
Steward of the Grand Lodge o
Canada in Ontario and Inspector
General of the Supreme Council
for the Dominion of Canada.
He was a member of Forest
Lodge AF & AM, a charter member
and past president of Temple
Lodge AF & AM, a member of the
Pentalpha Chapter No. 28, Royal
Arch Masons, the Toronto Lodge of
Perfection, the Toronto Chapter of
Rose Croix and Moore Consistory,
Hamilton.

The Township of Turnberry Fed-
eration of Agriculture will hold
their annual meeting on January
17th, 1961, at 2 p,rn. in the Blue-
vale Community Hall, with Mr.
George Hunt, Farm Management
Consultant, of St. Thomas, as guest
speaker. It is to be hoped that all
farmers and other interested citi
zens will avail themselves of this
opportunity to 'hear this guest
speaker and discuss farm problems.

HELP WANTED T. Edgar Henderson passed away
at his home in Minneapolis, Minn.,
on Tinfrsday, January 5th, in his
'74th year.
After receiving his education in
Ontario, he taught school at Madi-
son, Wis., later moving to Minnea-
polis to serve in the capacity, of
supervisor of schools, until his re-
tirement in .1951.
Surviving besides his wife are
two sons, Grey, of St. Paul., Minn,
John, of Minneapolis, Minn., a
daughter, Jean (Mrs. D. Burrows),
of Pasadena, Calif.; nine grand-
children; a brother, W. James Hen-
derson, of Bluevale Road, Wing-
ham, and a sister, Mrs. M. Esdale,
,of Winnipeg.
Interment was In Mipneepolis,
PAIR of lady's white figure skates,
size 51L, in good condition, $4.00.

WANTED
Mr. McLaughlin was a director
of the Oshawa. Chamber of Com-
merce from 1936 to 1949, president'
of the Oshawa Yacht Club in 19.48
and president of the Ontario Unit
of the Canadian Cancer Society.
Twice married, Mr. McLaughlin
was predeceased by ,his ,first wife,
.Marian Hutchison, of this district,
a sister of Mrs. N. T. McLaughlin,
of Wingham, He is survived by
his second wife, the former Mary
Watson, a daughter Nellie, (Mrs.
Lloyd Short) , and three grand-
children and a sister, Mrs. Gavin
(Lily) Davidson of Oshawa, who
lived for many years in Wroxeter.
Floral tributes and a column of
tributes 'in the bshawa paper by
many prominent men, indicated
the high esteem. in which Mr. Mc-
Laughlin was held. A Masonic
service 'was held at the McIntosh-
Anderson funeral home on Thurs-
day evening and many Masons
attended the funeral ' on Friday
afternoon, which was conducted
by Rev. Dr. George Telford of St.
Andrew's United Church, and a
former minister at Blyth, Inter-
ment was in Oshawa Union 'Ceme-
tery.
'Mrs. N. T. McLaughlin and. Mr.
and Mrs. George Fowler of Wing-
ham attended the funeral.

GORRIE—Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Dane, 'residents of Gorrie for many
years, will quietly mark their 56th
wedding anniversary on Wednes-
day of this week." They were mar-
ried in Mildmay by the Rev. J. W.
Holmes, minister of the Gorrie
Methodist Church. Mrs. Dane is
the former Sadie Hooey,
For a time they farmed in How-
ick near No. 4 school. In 1915 Mr.
Dane 'commenced service 'carrying
mail from the C.P:R. station to the
;Gorrie post office, the mail at that
time being drawn by horse and
sleigh or "wagon. He retired in
1952.
They maintain their own home.
Mr. Dane enjoys good health but
Mrs. Dane is not so well at' the
present time. They have one son,
Stanley, of Toronto, one grand-
daughter and three great-grand-
children. They are members of
the Gorrie United Church,

DIES IN LONDON

111 DIED CAITLE SPRAYING Rev. Horace W. Snell, a former
rector of St. Paul's Anglican
Church, Wingham, died at Victoria
Hospital. London, on Thursday. He
was a resident of Lambeth. He
was 81 years of age.
-Mr. Snell was inducted as rector
of St. Paul's on August 12th, 1917,
and served here for seven years.
He also served in churches at
Princton, Thorndale, Ayr, 'Strat-
ford, Brantford, London ,and Yar-
mouth Heights.
Surviving are one son, Dr. H.
Arthur Snell, Schenectady, N.Y.;
and four daughters, Mrs. Norman
(Margaret) Richman, St. Cathar-
ines; Mrs, George (Gwen) Fletcher,
Oshawa; Mrs. Glenn (Lloy) Mc-
fadden, Kitchener; Mrs. W, D,
(Dorothy) Smith, London.
Funeral service was held in
Trinity Anglican 'Church, Lam-
beth on Saturday, with internient
in St. Charles Cemetery, near
Tillsonburg.

Dies in Palmerston
'GORRIE—Anthony Holt of 'Pal-
merston died Monday morning in
his 83rd year. He was a former
resident' of Howick Township and
of 'Gorrie.
His wife, the former Rhoda
Douglas, formerly of Howick, sur-
vives with two sons, Douglas of
Fordwich and Clifford of Hamil-
ton.
'Funeral service will be from the
Henderson funeral home, Palmers-
ton, on. Wednesday at 2 p.m. with
interment in Fordwich cemetery.
Mr. Holt ;was a member of the Ang-
lican Church.

Peter McGue, of Toronto, a re-
tired engineer with the Canadian
National Railways died in Niagara
Falls General Hospital on January
3' after a short illness caused %by
stroke.
Mr. McGue was born in Turn-
berry Township 68 years' ago, a
son of the late Mr, and Mrs. Peter
McGue, He retired about three
years ago.
He is survived by nine sisters
and three brothers, Anna, Mae and
Veronica, of Toronto; Thelma,
Kathleen and Beatrice, of New
York; Vivian, of Denver, Col.;
Hazel, of Detroit, and Marguerite,
of Seattle, Wash.; Frank, of De-
troit; Joe, of Toronto, and. Allan,
