The Advance-Times bas received from Leon Cantelon, Leopold St., clippings from The Windsor Star which refer to his cousin, the late W. Henry Cantelon, O,B,'lS.. who died while attending a funeral in St. Joseph, Mich., on Dee, 20th. Be was 74 years of age, Mr. Cantelon was a son of the late. William Cantelon and Letitia Armstrong, who resided for many Years at Sunshine, in. Morris Town- ship, He went to Windsor in 1911 aTh in. 1914 formed a company known as. Auto Accessories Manu- facturing Co, After a merger in 1918 the firm became Auto Spec- ialties Manufacturing Co. Ltd, The Windsor company today is among the largest producers of automobile jacks. in America, Its place in •the malleable castings in- dustry is rated very .high. During the war Mr. Cantelon was named Supervisor of Production of Mal- leable Castings for war work under the Department of Munitions and Supply. As a result of his exemplary services he was award- el the' Order of the British Em- pire. He was widely known for his interest in Community services and the raising of funds for charitable enterpriegs of all kinds, Among the offices he carried were: chair- man of the Canadian Malleable Institute director of the Windsor Community Fund, director, Wind- tor Community -Services Inc., di- rector, Ontario Society for Crip- pled Children, director, Windsor Branch, Canadian Red -Cross, for- mer treasurer Windsor Chamber of Commerce, member of the boards of Grace Hospital, Hotel Dieu, former president of the Windsor Rotary Club and Beach Grove Golf Club. In 1940 he and another leading Windsor citizen formed Na. 7 'Ele- mentary Flying Training School. He remained . a member of the Windsor Flying Club. He was a member of the Board of the Children's Aid Society. He belonged to' Mocha Temple Shrine, Moramos Shrine Club, Windsor Club, Press Club, Foundrymen's Society. Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Manufactur- ers' Assoc. He was a member of the hoard of stewards and trustees of Central United Church. 'Fitting tribute to this fine citizen was paid in W. J. Clark's column in The Star, when he wrote: "Mr. Cantelon has gone. This com- munity has been the 'better . for his life and work here. He was 'born in Blyth, October 4, 1904, and was a on of the late Mr, and Mrs. Isaac Cowan. Mr. Cowan was employed by the- Ontario Department of Highways as patrolman for No. 19 Highway from Shakespeare to Woodstock„ a d No. 97 Highway south of Hick- n. He was a 'Member -of Knox United Church. Surviving are his wife, the form- er Clara Baechler, of Tavistock, whom he married in 1943; two bro- thers, John, of •Exeter, and Stew- art, of Wingham, and a sister, Mrs. Harry (Janet) Browne, of Wing- ham. A brother, Edgar, of Van- couver, predeceased !him. The 'funeral was- conducted on Wednesday, December 28, at 2.30 at the Francis funeral lhome, Ta- vistock, by Rev. A. L. Wightman 'Family Holds Gathering Over 30 members of the Wight- -man, family gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Caslick last Thursday, evening for an an- nual gathering, which is always held between Christmas and New Year's. Relatives were present from 'Britton, Listowel, Belgrave, Bluevale and Wingham. Euchre was played with Miss Eleanor Walsh, of Belgrave, haV- ing the high score for the ladies and Miss Margaret Wightman low. J C. Penny refers to a hook, "Government in Canada"; which was recently released 'by a Toronto publishing house. ,The book was written by ,a former Stratford man, Norman Werd, Ph.D., professor of political science at the University of Saskatchewan, In the foreword to the book prof. Ward pays tribute to the late Bob Verner, who left Stratford to be- come associated with the W. J. Gage publishing firm in Toronto, the company which produced the book. The author says, It was he who first suggested that I should Attempt the book, I agreed on condition, that he lend his bright and honest mind to the task, but his tragic death intervened before the boOk was well begun.
