Cyril Murray H.as
Been in Bank 35 Yrs.
Cyril Murray, son of Mrs. S. A
Murray, of town, who recently
moved to Coderich as manager of
the Canadian Bank of Commerce,
from Hamilton, completed 35 years
of his banking career at the end of
November.
Mr, Murray was born in Culross
Township, north of Teeswater. On
November 30, 1925,4 he started to
work for the Teeswater branch.
He was later transferred to branch.-
es at Listowel, Atwood, Barriston,
Wingham and Guelph, and during
the war was with a new branch at
Camp Borden. He later went to
Thorold, and it was from there
that he joined the armed forces in
January, 1943. He served overseas
far three years, with two of his
brothers,
When Mr. Murray returned borne
he was with the St. Catharines
branch for nine years. He was ap-
pointed manager of a new branch
in Hamilton in March, 1955, and
was transferred to Goderich as
manager of the branch there in
September of this year.
Looking back over the trend 'in
the banking business during the
years; Mr, Mtitray -remarked that
95 per cent of all employees were
men when he first entered the
bank, while! today there are only
35 per, cent male employees. Wo-
men are now employed in all de-
partments of the bank's work.
There have been great changes
in the rural life of this part of On-
tario as well. Mr. Murray says
that only one farmer in 50 owned
a tractor and the horse was the
mainstay on the farm. Now there
are few horses and tractors do
most Of the work.
Mrs. Murray is the lamer Mar-
garet 'Fritz of Listowel. They were
married in 1941. Both Mr. and
Mrs. Murray ,are interested in
church and community affairs and
belong to several organizations.
