To Hold Meetings in
Homes for Winter
WHITECHURCH-The regular
monthly meeting of the Women's
Institute was held on Wednesday
in the Memorial Hall with Mrs.
Garnet Farrier, . president, presid-
ing, and 17 ladies present. After
the opening exercises, the ladies
decided to hold the meetings in the
homes during the winter months
and accepted an invitation to meet
at the home of Mrs. Victor Em-
erson 'in January.

They decided to have the play
later, as all are busy with Christ-
mas concerts. All sang Christmas
carols. The roll call was answered
by a gift for a shut-in, and Mrs.
Scholtz, Mrs. Emerson and Mrs.
Lott were appointed to pack the
boxes. Mrs. Emerson gave a
Christmas reading and Mrs. Ezra
Scholtz sang "Come, Ye Lofty,
Come Ye Lowly".
The national anthem closed the
meeting, Miss Annie Kennedy and
Mrs. Lott, hostesses for the day,
served a dainty lunch of fruit-
bread and Christmas cake, With

Gaunt was chairman on Friday
night for the concert presented by
the teacher, Mrs. Mathers and the
pupils of S.S. No. 10 Itinloss, in a
full ,hall. All enjoyed the variety
program of choruses, musical ntim-
hers,. drills, dialogues, dance num-
bers, and recitations.
The secretary of the section,
Russell Roes, gave an interesting
resume of the history over 'the past
100 years, The log school was
built in 1860, and in 1870, the
frame sehool was built on the
corner of the Andrew Ferry farm,
He read the list of teacherti who'
had taught there through the years.
He 'said that the late Frank Henry
had 'been secretary for 40 years.
At one time over 60 ptipils attend-
ed, now 35 is the attendance. MI's; Robert Scott,
Rev. H. Anderson conducted the When the frame school was built,
the late H. D. Henderson, W, R.
Armstrong, arid Thomas Gaunt,
were trustees; In 1939. the neat
brick school was built on the
corner across the road,, with the
trustees, Wesley Leggett, Robert
Metlenaghan And .T. 11 Morrison.
By 1920 salaries had risen from .
$300 to 81,000. Now in 1960, the
salary is $4,000.
The trustees now are Russell
Rosa, John Gaunt arid thigh Shrew
soft. The ladies of the section'
served lunch after 8abta, came, and
I wish to express my sincere
thanks to my friends and neigh-
bors for their cards, treats and
visits while I was a patient in the
Wingham Hospital, Special thanks
to Dr. McKibbon and the nurses
on third floor. Your kindness will
