and girls' Sides were told In a skit
by two groups, then all were di-
vided into four groups to discuss
the problems of dating.

To Prepare Skit
For S.S. Concert
BELGRAVE—The main part of
the Hi-C meeting on Sunday night
was the election of officers, which
resulted as _follows: President,
Karen Anderson; vice-president,
Cameron Robinson; secretary,
Helen Anderson; treasurer, Lorne
Campbell.
Muriel Coultes led in a sing song
and Lorne Campbell, Barry Logan
and Anne Currie were in charge of
the worship service. Marlene Walsh
and Ruth Taylor will look after the
selling of church calendars.
Plans were made for the group to
prepare a skit for the Sunday
School concert to be held on Dec-
ember 16th in the Foresters hall.

Presides at GUild
BELGRAVE — Mrs. Herman
Nethery welcomed the members of
the Ladies', Guild of Trinity An-
glican Church to her home on
Thursday for the regular meeting.
The president, Mrs. Clare Van-
Camp, opened with a. hymn follow-
ed by prayer and the Lord's prayer
in unison.
Mrs. Lawrence Vermeil read the
Scripture lesson. Mrs. Richard
Procter read the minutes of the
last meeting and Mrs. Cooper Neth-
ery gave the financial statement.
Letters of thanks were read from
cards received by members.
Final plans were made for the
pot luck supper to 'be held in the
Foresters Halt on December 17. A
Christmas program will follow the
supper. A bake sale will be held
this week at C. R. ,Coultes' store.
The roll call was answered with
a Christmas verse. Mrs. Mel Brad-
burn read an article, "What Christ-
mas Means to Me", The group sang
the hymn, "Hark the Herald Angels
Sing" and Rev. F. Mealey closed the
meeting with prayer. Lunch was
served by the hostess.
Weekly Euchre
BELGRAVE — There were five
tables in play at the regular week-
ly euchre party held in the com-
munity centre on Wednesday night.
High prize winners were Mrs. Chris
Nethery and Roes MeEwen. Con-
solation awards went to Mrs. Ray
Crawford and Lewis Cook. Novelty
prize winner was Clarence Hanna.
Mr. and Mrs, Harvey Groves and
family, of Akron, Ohio, visited Mr.
and Mrs, deedon Hail 'and attended
the Mall-Brawn wedding at Blyth
on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. James Kennedy and
daughters, Gall and Louise, of Tore
onto, were week-end guests of Rev.

MANY ACTIVITIES
FOR FESTIVE SEASON
BELGRAVE—With, all the snow
last week It made oee realize just'
how close Christmas is and all the
activities it brings. Here are some
of the things that are planned for
Belgrave and district.
Knox Presbyterian, Church will
hold a concert on December 16 in
the community. centre, and having
no regular minister plans are in-
definite for special Christmas ser-
vices. Trinity Anglican Church and
Sunday School will hold a pot luck
supper and program in the Fores-
ters hall on December 17, Christ-
mas communion will be given at
the service' at the church on Dec-
ember 18.
Knox United Church Sunday
School is, planning to hold a concert
in the Foresters hall on December
16, with the usual program of di-
alogues and recitations.
• The Canadian Girls in Training
will hold their Christmas carol and
candlelight service on December 18,
at 8 p.m. VITith everyone welcorhe.
The pupils and teachers,' Mrs.
Joan Crawford and Mrs. Joan. Wat-
son, of Belgrave school, will hoed a
Red Cross party in the school just
for the pupils, with both rooms
contributing to the entertainment
of plays, dialogues and recitations.
The pupils of S.S. 5, Morris, with
their •teacher, Mrs. J. Wilson, will
present an operetta "Santa's Ex-
pertinent", in the school on the
evening of December 21st, with
everyone welcome.
The Wolf Cubs will have their
mothers as guests at their next
meeting, which will be their Christ-
mas party. The Institute will hold
its Christmas meeting on Decem-
ber 20th,

ary Auxiliary of the Gerrie Unit-
ed Church met 'at the home of Mrs.
M. D. Irvin with 18 present. Mrs.
L. N. Whitley opened with quiet
music. Christmas carols were the
hymns used .
Mrs. James Dunbar opened the
worship period. The Christmas
story was read by Mrs. T. L. Mc-
Innis. Mrs. Dunbar gave a very
interesting- reading and said, "All
take the road to Christmas but not
all tike the , road, to 'Bethlehem to
make Christ the centre of Chriet-
nias Day."
Mrs, Dewitt Adanis gave a very
interesting chapter from each of
the new study beaks, "The Ship
under the Cross" and "The Turn-
ing World". Mrs. Dunbar closed
with prayer.
Mrs. Gerald Galbrtath, president,
presided for the business. Boxes
are to be packed for sick and shut-
ins, Mrs. J. B. Clarke read the

Debating Teams
Meet Tonight
The first round of the Ontario
Junior Farmers' 1960 Inter-county
debating competition between
Middlesex and Huron Counties, will
take place on Wednesday evening,
December 7th, at 8.30, Topic- of first
round debates is: "Resolved that
current unemployment is detrimen-
tal to Canadian Agriculture".
Representing Huron in the de-
bates are Miss Marilyn Marshall,
R. 'R. 1, Kirkton, and Jim Dougall,
R. R. 3, Exeter, on the affirmative

Mrs. E. Smeltzer
Has 88th Birthday
Mrs. E. Smeltzer was honored at
a party on the occasion of her 88th
birthday, at the home of her grand-
daughter, Mrs. Norma. Ferguson, in
Regina, Sask. Slides were shown
during the evening by Miss Carol
Chambers.
The honored guest received many
carde and gifts. A. buffet turkey
supper was served by the 'hostess;
assisted by her mother, Mrs,' C, V.
Mellon, and her mints. Mrs. Fer-
guson made the honored guest's
birthday cake,
Mr. and Mrs. Smeltzer went west
from Ontario in 1910 and homstead-
ed in the Amulet district. They •
have three daughters and three
sons, 17 grandchildren and 33
great grandchildren. Guests present

conducted the WMS meeting in the
United Church on Thursday with

ton.

Dies at N.Y. Home
Mrs. Clara C. Malcolm, 'widow of
Rev. T. Walker Malcolm, died.
Thursday, November 24th, 'at her
home, 8925 Champlain Ave,, Ni-
agara Falls, N.Y., after a long ill-
ness. She was 86.
Bern in Hullett Township, Httron
County, Ontario, Mrs. Malcolm had
lived In Niagara Falls, N.Y., 18
years. She was a member of Bacon
Memorial Presbyterian Church, an
honorary member of the Board of
Foreign Missions and the Board of
National Missions of the Presby-
terian Church.
Survivors include a daughter,
Miss B. Eleeda Malcolm, of Niagara
Falls, N.Y., and a sister, Miss Rose
A. Coventry, of Wingham, Oqt,
Mrs. Malcolm was a frequent
visitor to Wingham.
A good turnout of past years'
members and future members, plus
the management committee met in
Belgrave last Tuesday evening for
the reorganization of the Belgrave
Feeder Steer Club.

The annual meeting of the Wo-
man's Auxiliary of St. Stephen's
Church will be held. at the home of
Mrs. Norman Wade on Thursday
afternoon at 2,30. Roll call "A
Thought for Advent".
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Underwood

week-end visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Glen Underwood.
The Ladies' Auxiliary to the
Legion held their Christmas party
for the children in the Legion Hall
on Saturday evening. Movies were'
shown and Santa paid his visit
later.

the children moved to Mrs. T.
Short's home on Thursday evening
until their own home is restored.
FORDWI011- -The annual Ladies'
Night 'banquet of the Fordwich Ma-
sonic Lodge was held in the com-
munity hall. St. Ann's Guild of
the Anglican Church 'served the
dinner to over 100 members and
their wives and guests.
During the program following,
the Wright Sisters and Miss Mary
Fisher were betted in several•num-

bees. Norman Wade proposed the
toast to Grand Lodge, which' was
replied to- by Dr. J.. E. Little of
Lucknow, the present district de-
puty grand master. The toast to
the ladies was proposed by Ken
Graham with Mrs. Melville Allan
eeplying.
Elmer Parrish ,showed pictures
of a trip to the Maritimes. Ben
Lucas of London was present and
entertained with his talent as 'a
cartoonist. The master of the
lodge, Jack Brown, presided for
the program,
In late summer or early fail the
steers are expected to be marketed,
at which time a complete compari-
son of the winter and summer
feeding periods, of each lot of
steers can 'be compared 'according
to cost per pound of gain.
The newly-elected officers are:

theme of the W.A. meeting of the
Fordwich United. Church he/4 in
the Sunday School room, The la-
dies worked on a for the bale,
Mrs, Glenn Johnston opened the
meeting' with a Christmas thought.
A hymn was, sung. ' Mrs. Scott
.Clarkson read the Scripture. The
Christmas story, from St. Mat-
thew ,and St. Luke was read. Mrs.
Crosby Sothern read. an article,
"For He Shall Say", based on, the
verse, "And though shalt call
his name Jesus, for he shall save
his people from their sins." Mrs.
Glenn Johnston gave the origin of
three Christmas hymns and parts
of the hymns were sung,
It was decided to have a New
Year's party at the January meet-
ing, the executive and ehe group
conveners t0 he the committee in
charge, The bazaar recently held
was very successful, netting .$260.
It was decided to donate $1,000 to
the installation of the oil furnaces.

GORRIE—George Brown's elec-
tric welding shop and garage were
destroyed on Tuesday evening in
a fire Which started in the shop
about 7 p.m. Gordon Moir's fun-
eral home and residence were also
extensively damaged. A heavy
snowstorm preveeted other nearby
buildings from taking fire.
No one was in the building at
the time. The fire was first no-
ticed by Mrs. Brown from a win-
dow in their nearby residence. Vol-
unteers fought the flames with ex-
tinguishers 'and snow until the
Wingliam firemen arrived, Ilax-
risten and Listowel fire depart-
ments also responded and it was
nearly midnight 'before the smol-
dering fire in the funeral home was
'under control.
Volunteers were able to reAve,
all the furniture and embalming
equipment, from the funeral home.
More serious damage was done to
the building than was first thought,
the sunporch, kitchen, Chapel and
roof being badly gutted. Thirty-
two years ago the Albion Hotel on
the same site, was destroyed by
fire.
Lost in the garage and welding
shop was all the• equipment, and
an antique car which was being
restored, ,was „partially, desteoaed.
The BroWns specialized in repair-
ing and restoring old cars. Two
ears were pushed out of •the build-
ing.
• Both losses are partially covered
by insurance.
Twelve young men enrolled for
the 1960-61 project, an increase of
two members over last year. It
was decided that each member's
lot of four steers would be weighed
on Thursday, Dec, 1st, to mark the
beginning of 'the feeding period.
Each member will feed his steers
the way he wishes and a feeding
record will be kept on forms pro-
vided by the Department of Agri-
culture office in Clinton.

recently to the apartment at the

Mrs. Moir Sr„ and Mrs. D. Luke,
of Hensel] spent a few days in the
village following the fire on Tues-
day night. They were entertained
at the home of Mr, and Mi's, Alex
Graham.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nay spent
the week-end in Waterloo.
Mrs. W. J. Gallaher and Miss
Maude Higgins were in Brussels
on Sunday es their sister-in-law,
Mrs. Edgar Higgins, of Brussels,
had passed away in the Clinton
Hospital. Funeral service was in
Brussels at 3 pm, on Monday et
the Rann funeral home and inter-
ment was in Wroxeter cemetery.
Mrs. Higgins was e sister of Mrs,
Margaret Willits, of Gorrie, who is
now, in Toronto recovering from
surgery at the'home of her daugh-
ter.
Mr, Thomas Summerville, Sea-
forth, Mr. Paul Higgins, Wroxeter,
are student teaching this week in
the senior room in Gorric public
school.
