PETITION ASKS FOR .
BELAY IN TESTING •
Farmers in the north section of
East Wawanosh Township are cir-
culating a petition in an effort to
suspend the testing of cattle for
brucellosis. The tests are already
under way in the southern section
of the township.
Those who are sponsoring the pe-
tition have stated that they are
not opposed to the tests in them-
selves only to the time of year at
kvideb they are being carried out.
Actually it is the clean-up pro-
gram in the stables where tests are
made which is causing the oppos-
ition. Before a farm can be an;
rroved as brucellosis-free the cattle
must be turned out until the stables
have been thoroughly cleaned and
a new coat of whitewash applied.
The farmers contend that it is
too late in the year to leave cattle
out of doors over night, and at any
time heavy snow falls can be ex-

Farewell Party
A farewell party Was held at the
home of Mrs. Ed McBurney last
Thursday evening for Mrs, David
Ternpleman. About 24 neighbours
Were present. The evening was
spent. playing cards. The win-
ners were Mrs. Ken :Leitch, Mrs.
Harold. Walsh and Mrs. Harold
Burrell.
A card table and two chairs were
presented to Mrs. Templeman.
Lunch was served by Mrs, Louis
Readman and. Mrs. McBurney,

be forwarded to the supervising
veterinarian and to the minister 01
agriculture. The petition will ask
that the tests be held over until
warmer weather in the spring.
Miss M. Alexander
Dies in Locknow
wams.raumai Miss Matilda
Alexander, daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Alexander of
West Wawanosh, passed away in
her sleep on Tuesday morning of
last week in the convalescent home
at Lucknow, where Site had been
`for the past three years.
Miss Alexander was well-known.
here as she was 41, resident of the
Village, staying with the late Mr.
and Mrs. Thomas Moore for-about
five years, She lost her sight over
irs years ago, but for many years
she kept track of her friends by
telephone, and was of a happy dis-
position. She would havo,been 98
in December,
The funeral was held on Thurso-
,day at the McKenzie memorial
chapel, Lucknow, with Rev. Green
• of St. Helens officiating. The fol-
lowing were pallbearers, W. R.
Pardon, William Kinahan, Albert
Taylor, Michael Cummins, Cliff
Murray and Joseph Foran. Inter-
ment was in Greenhill cemetery.
