Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Neable and
family on Saturday attended the
funeral of his mother at Seaforth,
Mrs, Harry Swan has been a pa-
-tient in Victoria 1-Tospital, London,
for the past three weeks, suffering
from a brain tumor.
The regular monthly meeting of
the Women's Institute will be held
on Tuesday evening next, when the
members will hold' a potluck sup-
per in the Memorial hall, with Mr.
James Myers, of Tedswater, speak-
ing en fire protection and showing
a film on the work as firemen.
Mrs. Wesley Tiffin was able to
return home on Saturday after 'be-
ing a patient in Wingham, Hospital
for the past two 'weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hurephrey, of
St. 'Helens, will celebrate their 68th
wedding anniversary on Wednes-
day, November 9th. Mr: Humphrey
observed his 91st birthday on Oc-
tober 10th. The best wishes of all

William Henry celebrated their 21st
wedding anniversary on Saturday
evening when a large number of
friends and neighbors at-tended.
The evening was spent in dancing.

the Henry home, They were Mr.
and Mrs, Orville Mitchell and Mr.
and Mrs. Crest Hawerelink, of Tor-
onto, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley An-
derson and family of St. Cath-
arines, Miss Phyllis O'Brien and
Miss Frances Henry of London,
and Mr. and Mrs. W. J. O'Brien of
Whalen's Corners.
Mr, and Mrs. • Henry received
many beautiful and useful gifts.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Leaver, Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Thompson and Mr.

funeral of the late Mrs, James Fin-
layson, at the Whitney funeral
home, Seaforth, on Saturday to

about $17.00 for UNICEF this
week-end as a Hallowe'en project,
under the United Church Mission

WHITECHURCH Ladies from
the -WilVfS of Westfield, Donny-
brook, Whiteehureh and Belgrave
attended the ThankOffering -meet-
ing in Calvin-Brick United Church
-on Thursday last, with the presi-
dent, Mrs. Norman Coultes, pre-
siding and leading responsively in
-the prayer. The hymn, "Lord of
All, to Thee •We Raise", was sung,
Mrs. Gordon McBurney read the
Scripture ldsson and the medita-
tion, "Whom Shall I -Send?" Mrs,
Roy Pattison led in prayer.
Mrs. Alex Robertson and Mrs.
McBurney sang a duet. Mrs. John
Nixon and Miss Lorna Bolt sang
"Dear Lord, Forgive".
Mrs, Chas. Shiell introduced the
speaker, Mrs. (Rev.) Anderson, who
gave a very interesting talk on the
study book, "Let Us Go into All the
World Together", showing the
world-wide interest Christianity
has and the willingness to work
together;Disunity among the ranks
is a scandal. Missionaries are co-
workers with the people of the
country to which they are sent,

son for her splendid leadership,

Mrs. Albert Scott gave two poems
"Each Day Comes to Us", and
"Stirangers to This Land". Mrs.
Coultes closed the meeting with the
benediction. The different groups
of bats, owls, 'witches, broom-
sticks, etc., enjoyed the social half-
hour that followed.
Euchre Enjoyed at •
S.S. No. 9 Masquerade
WHITECITURCH—The pupils of
SS. No. 9, East Wawanosh enjoy-
ed a Hallowe'en party at the school
on Friday evening. At the con-
clusion of the masquerade, twelve
tables of euchre were in play,
sponsored -by Mr. and Mrs. Norman
Coultes, and Mr, and Mrs. Alex
Robertson. /
The prizes for high points went
to Mrs. Rutherford Reavie and
Harold Congram, and for low
points, Mrs, Harold Currie and
George • Walker.
All enjoyed a social time -together
and plans were made to meet on
November 18, with Mr. and- Mrs.

Cancel Convention
At a meeting of the executive of
the North Huron Council of Chris-
tian Education at the home of
Harry Snell, Londesboro, it was de-
cided that in view of unavoidable
circumstances -the 1969 Interdenom-
inational eonventon would have to
be cancelled. However, plans are

held their annual meeting in the
Agricultural Board ROOMS, Tuesday
evening, October 25th, at 8,u,

tion of butter is decreasing and
this raised the question, "Are our
children being educated away from
the use of butter?" This is particu-
larly interesting in the light of a
statement made by a recent visit-
or to Russia when he stated that
in -Russia butter substitutes are not
considered healthful, 'particluarly
for children, and are therefore used
only to a limited degree in baking.
It was also stated thatfor every'
$100,00 -worth of butter sold only
10c is spent on advertising, while
for butter substitutes for $100,00 of
sales $2,00 is spent on promotion of
the product.

Producers secretary-manager, corn-
plimented Huron COunty in the fine
job done -by this year's 'Dairy Prin-
cess, Miss Doreen Howatt,
With regard to advertising On-
tario Cream Producers -paid their
full quota to the Dairy Farmers of
Canada for this purpose; -but sug-
gested that perhaps we should be
doing still more.
He- expressed appreciation " to
creamery operators for their efforts
in manufacturing a top quality
product, Producers need to remem-
ber that top quality -cream is need-
ed for this to ocntinue. .
Mr. Morrison went on to explain
that there is a real need for e•reat-
er co-operation' among milk.' pro.
ducers and a direction program
with some form of price blending
is needed to increase returns to the
dairy farmer 'on a more equitable
level.

The sectional meeting of WMS
was held in the Belmore United
Church on Thursday afternoon:
Mrs, (Dr.) Robinson, of Walkerton,
had charge of the meeting.
After the devotional part, taken
by 'several members, Mrs. Stanley
Graham, of Mildmay, gave a report,
of the conference she attended as
delegate, held in McMaster Univer-
sity in Hamilton, Miss Lavonee
Ballagh sang a solo; "My Cath-
edral", „.
Mrs, Lake introduced' the'. guest
speaker, Miss Florence Fee, of Tor-
onto, a former missionary in
China, who told many interesting
things. Mrs. Connor, of Walkerton,
led in prayer. A hymn was sung,
and Mrs. Fred Doubledce gave the
closing prayer after which a social
half-hour was enjoyed by all,

IN MAIL NOW
The 1960 book of telephone num-
bers is now on its way to sub-
scribers_ 4n Wingham and sur-
rounding area, H a P. Johnston,
Bell Telephone manager for this
region, said this week.
"The new. directory should be
used as soon as it is received," Mr.
Johnston said, "with the excep-
tion of the Teeswater section. Dial
telephones are being introduced
there on December 4 at which time
Teeswater telephone users will re-
ceive new numbers. Until Lieeem-
ber 4, then, the old directory should
be retained for TeesWater listings,"

ceive 1790 copies of the directory
this year, compared With 1720 in
1959. Total circulation throughout
