TOPIC OF SPEAKER
WHITECHURCH The regular
monthly meeting of the Woman's
Institute was held in the memorial
hall here last Tuesday evening
with 33 ladies present; and with.
the president, Mrs. Garnet Farrier,
presiding.
'After the opening exercises. Mrs.
Victor Emerson gave a splendid
tall' on the motto, "A merry heart
kills more germs than medicine".
It springs from an inner content-
ment, desired by all, but not found
in the accumulation of things, nor
yet a condition of health; no acci-
dent, a real achievement, a feeling
of true happiness of soul, a har-
mony with environment, something
to be. desired by each, and woven
into Sour character each day.
By the financial statement, this
group has $86 on hand, Plans were
made to attend the rally at Port
Elgin on October 20, with Mrs. Jas.
McInnis and Ml's, Russell Ross as
voting delegates. Plans were made
to get leaders to attend the train-
ing school at VValicerton, for sew-
ing. The ladies decided to donate
$5.00 to UN14.1SCO. They 'were re-
minded of the paper drive for last
Wednesday and of • the rummage
sale this Saturday with collections
in the village on Friday.
Miss Marjorie Coultes gave a
very interesting talk on mental
health, causes and signs for need
of treatment, and spoke of the
feeding of guilt, or inferiority or
insecurity, caused by ill-health. A
very fine film was shown, depicting
the ,different stages of the sick-
ness, and, the different methods of
treatment as well as the. final as-
sistance each and, all, can give, in
accepting cured patients into so-
ciety again, Mies Cotiltes received
a hearty vote. of appreciation for
her talk, and showing the film.
The roll call was answered by
the members giving a stamped get-
weil card and envelope. Mrs Met-
calfe spoke for Christmas remem-
brances on behalf of the retarded
children at Sniith Falls. The na-
tional anthem closed the meeting.
Lunch was served and the social
hour enjoyed.
