Gilkinson, in the chair. A Psalm was read respon- sively and Mrs. D, Rae and Miss A. Mitchell collaborated in d, Medi- tation • on this psalm. of thanksgiv- ing. The Hebrew Feast of Tab- ernacles was a _period of returning thanks to God for all His goodness and many of the Psalms reflect praise and joy for a bountiful har- vest, the fruits of the earth being offered in their thanksgiving. Pray- ers Were Offered by Miss A. IVIit- ellen, Mrs. W, IVIeRague and Mrs. E. R. Harrison. The guest speaker, Mrs. AlVin Mundell, brought a very timely message on the giving of thanks. Using the word thanks in an acros- tic, she pointed out we should be More ready to voice appreciation of life's. simple things, of homes, of answered prayers, of neigh- bors, of our Lord as King of life, and of the privilege of serving Him. • Mrs. A. Nimmo expressed the ap- preciation of all present to Mrs. Mundell for her message. A solo, "Watch and Pray" -sung by Mrs. J, E. Ostrom, accompanied by Mrs, W. E. Ford, was notch en- joyed, -and Mrs. J. MoKague closed the Meeting with prayer. The social cotrunittee, under the convenership of Mrs. H. V. Pym, served tea. Huron Youth. Wins Silver Dollars Lorne Horn, of R.R,‘ 1, Wood- ham, was the top winner in the 4-11 Silver Dollar competition, The 'Huron youth won 50 silver dollars. The second prize winner, Peter Hannam, of FL, R. 2, Giielph, won 25 silver dollars. Third prize win- ner in this keen competition was Keith iMartih, of West Montrose. Miss 'Sheila Linton, Ontario Dairy Princess, presented the 'awards on the stage at the IC 8c W Exhibition and FallFair, The 4-H Silver Dollar 'competi- tion is a new competition sponsor- ed jointly by the Waterloo Cattle Breeding Association and the IC St W Exhibition and Vail Pair. The seven top dairy 4.H members in the four 'counties serviced by * the Waterloo Cattle Breeding Associ- ation were ,eligible Ter this Com- petition, The counties competing were Waterloo, Wellington, Bruce and Huron, Each contestant took part in a dairy rjtsiz of thirty questions, 300 points, classifying four dairy cows 200 points, showing their dairy calf 800 points, and shcorkinnzshiP 200 points. President The first meeting- of the new 441 Club project "The Club Girl Enter- tains", was held in the Winglaalla town hall on iSepternber 30. The Meeting opened by singing the opening ode followed by the pledge and motto. The leader, Mrs. Currie, welcom- ed the girls and explained the meaning of the 4-R homemaking clubs, the .objectives, the require- ments of a club member; steps in measuring and hospitality in the home. The assistant leader, Mrs. Lapp, told about working methods, clean- liness In handling food and work- ing with dishes, She then showed how to prepare flowers suitable "o, a dirl'ing room bouquaz and made up a nice arrangement. Mrs. Currie gave tha home as- signment to start a record book and practise measuring. The second meeting was held on Friday evening with eleven girls present. Sandra MacDonald react the minutes and the girls discussed a name for the club, Roll call was answered with one item each girl would like fbr the guest room. Mrs. Currie led in a discussion on "Hospitality, a Family Pleas- tire". 'She outlined" the' responsibil- ities of a hostess and talked' on in- vitations, both formal and inform- al, She also mentlinicd the' refer- ence file which .each .girl. must. start. Mrs. Lapp's part of the program was on the guest room and the re- sponsibilities of the guest, Mrs. Currie then explained about" pack- ing a week-end bag and Shirley Congram made the demonstration. The home- assignments were to decide on a method for filing and the 'purchase of material; to collect material for the file and to work on record books. The Mission Band Purpose was repeat- ed in unison and after a few words of welcome by the president to the mothers, the Mission Band, Wel- come Song was sung. • " A story, read by Bryan Miller, appropriately carried out the Thanksgiving 'theme for the de- votional period. The Scripture les- t U.C. Mission Band son,was taken by Janie Aktlarea, followed with a prayer by Debbie Gibson. Birthday greetings were sung to seven children. ',A vocal solo by Lynda Hutton, 'a reading by Diane Caslick and a piano solo 'by Gail Stokes were en- joyed by all. Rev. T. G. Hussar, -the guest speaker, was introduced by Mrs. W. B. Conron and thanked by Lynda Reavie. He 'brought the 'children a most interesting missionary mes- sage. The meeting closed with a hymn after which a social half- hour Was spent.
