Cowan reading the• minutes, Fires to date, with four days left in the month were three town calls, few country calls and two false alarms. Birthdays were celebrated in September by two members, A, Seli and Bruce Anger. Congrats are in order. On motion of Bob 'Sinnamon and. Fred Templeman it was decided to again join the film council and pay the annual fee. The hail and property committee made a recommendation that the hall needs repairs to windows and masonry. Their report will be forwarded to town council by the fire committee chairman, Jack Got- butt. The firemen will moot at the hall on Monday evening, Oct, 7th in connection with plans for Fire Pre- vention Week, Oct. 2nd to 8th. Social evenings for the firemen and their wives will commence, on Wednesday, Oct. 19th, Firemen across Canada will be asking the public to help them in their canvass for funds for muscu- lar dystrophy, which runs from Nov. 20th to 26th. The local fire- men will make a house-to-house canvass of the town on Friday, Nov. 25th. The appointment of officers and committees for 1961 resulted as follows: Chief, Jim Carr; asst. chief, D. Crothera;. captains, 13111 Bain and Norm Cronkwright; sec.- treas., S. Cowan; chairman, Bill Bain; comm. chairmen, property, Harvey Aitcheson; finance, J. Carr; welfare, S. Cowan; hall, Bob Sinnamon; entertainment, M. Tay- lor. In making up the committees a padre for the dept. was suggested. One member only that could quali- fy was Bill Bain, but S. Cowan was sorry Larry Hiseler was not here to fill the post. The matter was dropped. Now that next week Fire Preven- tion Week is coming up, have you looked at that fire extinguisher covered with cobwebs or under piles of debris. They have to he checked regularly to see that they are in working order. If you are not sure if it works or how contact any fireman who will gladly help you with the prob- lem. Wingham started off in fine style but found, their pitcher, Bill Hotchkiss sidelined for the game when Underwood, pitching for Tara, threw an inside ball which struck Bill on his right arm. Ken Cerson banged a home run in the third inning to give Wingham a 1-0 lead, but failed to come through for the rest of the game. This Saturday , Duck hunters in 'the southern dis- trict of Ontario will open their sea- son at noon, Saturday, 'October 1, instead of Monday, October 3. The new opening date was set by the Canadian Wildlife Service at the request of the Ontario Government. The duck and other waterfowl season opened on September 15 in the northern district of Ontario and opened at noon, September 24, in the central district, The southern district's season is now from Oc- tober 1 to December 15 except in Essex County, where geese may he hunted frOm. October 1 to Deoem- ber 31. . Bowling News At the ladies' trebles tournament held here last Wednesday, a local rink composed of Mrs. J. Finnigan, Mrs. L. Patterson and Mrs, J. Mac- Intyre, won first prize. Second and third prizes went to Goderich rings skipped by Mrs. Earl Allison and Mrs. T. McLeod, while Mrs. B. Pickard's rink of Paisley finishe,d in fourth place.
