Over 050 students thronged the corridors getting information on lockers and so forth. The student body was called to the auditorium where Principal Frank Madill opened the school year with a passage of Scripture and prayer. Walker WINGHAM Mr. and Mrs. Howard McGuire were honored on Saturday evening when about 40 relatives and friends gathered at the home of their son, Mr. and Mrs. Lovell McGuire, on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary, A very pleasant social evening was spent and the couple was pre- sented with a number of gifts. Guests were present from Mitchell, Fordwich, Gaderich, Lueknow, Rip- ley, Sudbury and Detroit. Mrs. McGuire is the former Jean Bell, of Holyrood, They were mar- ried at Port Colborne and lived for a short time in Detroit. They re- turned to the homestead, R. R. 6, Lucknow, where they farmed until they moved to Wingham two years ago. They live in the home form- erly occupied by George Drehman on Josephine N., and Mr. McGuire is now- working in the office and shop with his son, for Surge Dairy Equipment. Mr, and Mrs. 1VicGuiro have two sons, Lovell, of Wingham, and Arnold, of Sudbury. A daughter died at the age of nine. Mrs. Arthur Stephens and Miss Evelyn, of Gorrie,' visited on Sun- day at the home of 'Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Chamney, Miss Claire Chamney received word that she had passed her exams at Toronto and procured her Teacher's Certi- ficate for the Elementary Music course. Miss Mary Fisher procured the Teacher's Certificate in vocal and instrumental music in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mc:Burney and sons visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. James McBUrney, of Ttirnberr3r. Mr. and Mrs. George Fisher spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Fisher, of creorgetown. Marion McGee, Milton Purdon, Ruth Elliott, Paul and Jane Laid- law, Cheryl Hill and Carol Webster started to Fordyce school on Tues- day. Mrs. George Kennedy is the new teacher, Miss Jean Naylor, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Naylor, has been working at Kincardine Hos- pital Tir the past two months. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Phillips and baby, Kathy, of Walkerton, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Clar- ence 'Chamney. Miss Gertrude Stewart, of Conks- ville, is spending' a week at the home of her sisters Mrs, Harold Walker. Mr, and .Mrs. Walker and Miss Stewart visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Rome and other Teeswater friends, Barry Taylor, 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Taylor, of West Wawanosh, had the misfor- tune last Friday when playing at the house to fall and broke both arms above the wrists. Mr. Lynn O'Malley, of Sarnia, and Mr. George Barr, of London, spent the week-end with the form- er's parents, Mr, and Mrs. Thos. O'Malley, Mrs. Wm. Lyon and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gaunt, of Londesboro, visited on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Beecroft, Among those from a distance who attended the funeral of the late Gordon McGee on Saturday, and who later gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George McGee were Mr. and Mrs. George Graham, of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. John Stub- bington, of London; Mr, and Mrs. Stanley Underhill, of Barrie; Mr. and Mrs. Melville Beecroft, of Ot- terville; Mr. and Mrs. Hector Ham- ilton, of Gorrie; Mr, and Mrs. Jack McGee and Helen, of Dungannon; Mrs. Victor Young, Mrs. Leask Mc- Gee and Mrs. John McGee, of Wingham, and Mr. Adam McBurn- ey, of Marnoch. A new oil furnace has been in- stalled in S:S, No. 7; East Wawa- nosh and a new ceiling in the school room. 'Clayton Robinson. Douglas Bieman,' William Naylor and Jane Eckenswiller start to Wingham District High School and Mrs. Gordon Bosman, teacher at S:S. No, 7 has Ray Robinson, Mar- ion Armstrong and Joe Eckenswil- ler in the beginners' class. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Robinson and Larry and Mr .and Mrs. Ross Rob- inson, of Lucknow, visited on Thursday and Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Coyne, of Windsor. Michael Coyne, who had visited foi the past month at the Robinson home, returned home to Windsor. Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Hussey, who visited last week with her aunt, Mrs. Chas. Robinson, return- ed to their home in Toronto on Thursday. Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Ash- by, -of Toronto, are spending a fow days this week at the Robinson home. The Ladies' Aid of the Presby- terian Church held a meeting in the, Sunday School room on Tues- day. Mr. and Mrs. -Hector Purdon and family of Sarnia spent the week. end with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Fal- coner, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur CrOnin spent a few days this week at Cale don -with Mr. and Mr's. Elgin Wel- wood. WHITECIIURCH Mr. and Mrs, Kenneth Johnston and daughters, of Clinton, spent the week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gershom Johnston. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Smith and family, of Kitchener, spent Sunday there. Dwight Smith, who spent the sum- mer with his uncle, Mr. James Johnston, of Turnberry, returned home with his parents. Mr. Bradley Galbraith is con- fined to his home with an attack of mumps, Mn, and Mrs. Donald Fraser and children, of Walton, visited on Sun- day at the home of her sister, Mrs, John JarnieSon. Misses Myrtle and Ruby Laird, Chester and Percy Laird, of Pal- merston, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Leaver. Mr. and Mrs, Carman Hayden, of Port Albert, and her sister, Miss Iva Carr, of Dungannon, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Gershorn Johnston. 'Mr. Johnston has been progressing favourably since the A.Ocidont, and can get around on crutches and in a Wheel chair. Mrs, Robert Purdon and Mrs. Gordon Rintoul and Gail spent a day last week in London.
