On Wednesday afternoon a bale was packed by members of the afternoon and evening Auxiliaries of St. Stephen's Church for St. Paul's Indian Residential School at Cardston, Alberta, with three lay- ettes and a boy's outfit, a crib quilt and a quantity of good used clothing, It was valued at $90. Three quilts, girls' dresses and aprons and used clothing were also packed for the Mohawk In- stitute at Brantford. It was valued at $40.00. Miss Gladys Coulter, Kitchener, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Coutter. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Edgar visited at the 'home of Mr. and Mrs, Harold Edgar, Guelph, on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Coulter attended the McNeil re-union in Moorefield Park, recently, Mr. and Mrs. Allan White were in Belleville for the week-end and on Saturday, attended the wedding of a cousin. Mr. Thomas Short was taken to Listowel Memorial Hospital on Saturday. He had suffered a severe nosebleed and on entering the hospital had a coronary, His condition has since improved. Mr. and. Mrs. R. T. Bennett are Spending some time at their cottage at Rousseau. The Rev. J. Ewart Clarke attend- ed sessions of the London con- ference at St. Thomas last week. Mrs. James Edwards returned to her home last week after spending some time with, her daughter, Mrs. Leslie Davidson, Listowel, follow- ing her illness in the Palmerston Hospital.- Her sister, Mrs. Vickie Klemp of Kitchener was with Mrs. Edwards at her home for a few days. Mrs. Sadie Button of Riverside, Cal., is spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Wellesley Strong. and other friends. Mr. and Mrs. Tel- ford Montgomery of London were week-end guests at the same home. Mrs. John Montgomery of London accompanied them and spent the week-end with Mr. Tom and Miss Beatrice Shera, Wroxeter. Mrs, Smith of 'St. Thomas is visiting Rev. and Mrs. E. C. Attwell, Mrs. Ruth Corbett returned to her home last week after spending the winter with her brother, Mr. Anson 'Galbraith. Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Brown and family will be leaving Gorrie, July 15th and moving to Norwood, Mr. Brown has been C.P.R. station agent here for the last 17 months. He will be agent at Norwood, which is near Peterborough. The Ladies' Auxiliary and mem- bers of ,the Howick Legion attend- ed church service at the Gorrie Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon. SPEAKER GORRIE---Mrs. L. N. Whitby opened the June meeting of the Woman's Missionary Society in the Gorrie United Church with quiet music, Mrs. Ken Hastie took charge of devotions with Mrs. R. Adams reading the Scripture, Mrs. K Hastie led in prayer. Mrs. R, Adams introduced the guest speaker Mrs, Burrell, Wing- ham, who told of experience in other places where community friendship was practised and its blessing to others, "God expects you to carry your corner of the load because there is no one hut you to hold it up and do so pray- erfully. Little faith is a cowardly investigator, Have you done what you could?" Mrs. Gerald Gaibraith, president, conducted the business on hand. Miss"Elva Hupfer, Wroxeter, dele- gate to Sarnia conference in April gave an interesting report telling of the highlights at the conference. She also said Huron County had the most associate members in the conference, over 600. Mrs. A, L. Stephens thanked the ladies and on behalf of the society, Mrs. Gerald Galbraith presented them with a small token of appre- ciation. Mrs. Galbraith closed by singing the African song "Kum Ba. Ya" in unison and offering prayer. The committee in charge, served re- freshments. Percy Colmer, 57 Dies in Toronto GORRIE--The death occurred in St. Joseph's Hospital, Toronto, on Monday afternoon, May 30th, of PerCy Colmer, 63 Brentwood Road, south, Toronto! after" a very short illness. Born in Peterborough, he was in his 58th year. He had been a resi- dent of Toronto for some 35 years and was a telegrapher with the C.P.R.. He was a member of Kingsway-Lambton United Church. His wife, the former Clara King of Carrie, survives with a son Gary and a daughter Donna, both at home. Four brothers and one sister also survive. Funeral service was conducted at the Turner-Porter Funeral Home, Toronto, Wednesday even- ing, by the Re''. Allan Hughband 'of the Kingsway-Lamblon Church, Burial was in Gorrie cemetery on Thursday at 1.30 p.m. with the Rev. E. C. Attwell of St. Stephen's Anglican Church in charge, ". Pallbearers were 'Wilford King, Frank King, Harry King, Ross King and Wayne King. GORE Mr. and. Mrs. Chester Bennett and Miss Thelma went to Toronto on Sunday and attended the West- ern Hospital graduation tea on Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett remained for the grade- ation exercises on Monday, when their daughter Shirley graduates. Mr. and Mrs. Frank King have received word thtit their son, Jack, has passed his first year exams at Toronto University. Jack will be employed for the summer months at Regan, in Northern Ontario. Mr. Robert Wade, of Montreal, son of Mr. and Mrs, Norman Wade, flew to England on May 28th and will spend five weeks on business for Imperial Tobacco, in England, .Paris and Hamburg; Germany. His wife -and son Paul will join him early in July and they will spend three weeks' holidays in, England and Scotland. Mr, and Mrs. W. C. King, Mrst Frank King, Mrs. Harry King and Mr. Earl King were in Toronto Wednesday evening to - attend funeral service for Mr, Perry Col- Liner. Mr. Prank Xing and Mr, Harry King and Mrs. W. C, King were in Toronto for a couple of ' days previously.
