Belgrave Midgets
Lose First Game-
Whet looks like an interesting
season of ball began. last Thursday
night when 'Tiverton played in
Belgrave. Elelgrave led 4 to 0 until
the 7th inning when they blew
the ball game, letting the visitors
score four runs in each of the 7th
and 8th innings.
The final score was 8 to 4 for
Tiverton. Whitechurch midgets
will play Belgrave on Monday,
June 6th, at Belgrave Park.

OFFICIAL OPENING
While golf enthusiasts have been
out on the course for the past
month, the official opening of the
1960 season for the Wingham Golf
Club was held ,last Wednesday when
a mixed, two-hall foursome -got
under way at 1,30 and a men's
tourney at 3.30 in the afternoon.
Both were nine hole competitions.
Following the golf an enjoyable
turkey dinner was served .at the
club house by the ladies. About 90
golfers enjoyed the meal while
about 65 entered the two competi-
tions.
In the mixed foursome wit's. G,
Rapsort and Ian rvfeLaurin took top
honors with Mrs. M. Foxton and
Dr. W, A. Crawford being tied for
second with. Mrs. W, A. 1VIcKibbon
and Ross Hamilton, In third spot
were 'Mrs. N. Elliott and Wilfred
French,
In the men's tournament L. Jar-
din. took the round with a par
score. Don Rae and Omar Hasel-
grove were second and third. Others

in the latter town on Monday night.
The score was Belgrave- 8, Tees-
water 5, but the outcome was
doubtful right through to the last
inning.
The game was played in a,.driZzle
hut did not prevent outstanding
fielding plays by both teams.
Whited-tura will meet the Bel-
grave boys in Belgrave on Monday
evening at 7 o'clock, which should
prove to be a good game.

Gorrie Wroxeter Troop
Ail members , were present for
the regular meeting on Wednes-
day evening. After flagbreak and
inspection Scouter Bob Edgar led
the troop in a rousing game. Patrol
instruction followed, led by Patrol
Leaders Rick Irwin, Bob Grainger
•and Don Whitfield.
Jim Sharpin and Brian Elliott
passed their tenderfoot tests and
will be invested next week.
Scouter Lloyd Townsend conduct-
ed a lively outdoor Kim's game,
Bryan Underwood was invested -and
became a member of the Hawk
Patrol. Scouter Edward Attwell
closed the meeting with thte
"Scouter's Five Minutes" on the
subject "Friendliness".
The next meeting will he in Car-
rie United Church and the Scout,
Cub, and Parents' banquet will 'be
held on June 3rd, in the Wroxeter
community hall:

Belgrave Cubs-
The Belgrave Cubs held the re-
gular 'meeting in the community
centre with an, attendance of 31.
Mrs. Budd Orr led in games and
contests before the Grand Howl
and inspection. Mrs. Gordon Me-
Burney told the story,

The first game in the Intermed-
iate ball schedule was called be-
cause of rain at the end of the
Sixth inning on Monday night in
the Wingham park: The teams
were Wingham and Belgrave but
neither was able to score a. run.
As a matter of fact, Belgrave had
only two hits and Wingham one in
the entire six innings.
Ken -Gregg and Bill Hotchkiss
were the .pitchers for Wingham
with "Cookie" Foxton as catcher,
Belgrave's battery was the Coultes
brothers,
Doug Murray, who has recently
been transferred to Preston, has
been a loss to the team. Two new
members are ken Gregg of Lon-
dOn, now on the staff of the To-
ronto-Dominion Bank here, and
Ken Saxton. There are seven
teams in thagroup, Belgrave, God-
erieh-Bertmiller, Ripley, Lucknow,
Portia Albert, Kincardine and Wing- im.
Wingliam, will play klneardine in
that town tonight (Wednesday) at
8.30 and Ripley will he the

Mrs. Rosenhagen thanked those
who had given their •time in super-
vising at the arena, seeing that the
injured were cared for and that
some of their time- to make it pos-
sible.
It was reported that expenses of
tests had been, high, due to illness
of 'one judge, reptace-
ment and a second,.carA needed for
transportation,
Thirty-four had passed these
tests at an approximate cost of
$1.00 each, to the club, besides the
fees. skaters paid to be forwarded
to the Canadian Figure Skating
.Assoc. These tests' provide the
best way of determining the.prp-
gress of the skater and a perman-
ent record of each one, is ,kept at
Ottawa and here.
Parents with sugieStions fdi im-
proving the club are asked to give
them to any member of .the execu-
tive as soon as possible.
The nominating committee pre-
sented a. slate consisting of a. pre-
sident and 'eight directors which
were elected. At the executive
meeting which followed the officers
were appointed: Past pros., W. W.
Gurney; pres., Norman Welwood;
vice, J. Strong; treas,, Mrs. H.
Wild; see., Mrs. H. Burrell; cos-
tumes convener, Mrs. J. Day; ar-
