SPEAKS AT MEETING
BELGRAVE- The regular meet-
ing of the l3elgrave Women's In-
stitute was held in the community
centre on Tuesday afternoon with
an attendance of 26.
The 'president, Mrs.. Richard.
Procter, was in charge and con-
ducted the business period, Thank
you cards were read. from a number
of shut-ins in the crannatteity. The
group decided to support the ap-
peal of the Red Cross to canvass
this area, and to gather pennies
for the Mental Health as was done
in the past. It was announced that
the 4-H Homemaking Achievement
Day would be held in the Wing-
ham, High School on Saturday.
The following were named a
committee to make plans for the
banquet on March 15 for the Bel-
grave Co-operative A.sso.cia'ion:
Mr;. J. M. Coultes, Mrs. Lyle
Hopper, and Mrs. Earl Anderson-.
The group will again sponsol
the 4-H Homemaking Club pro-
ject, "Meat in the Menu", with Mrs.
;Herson, Irwin as leader and an as-
sistant is to be named. Mrs. Wal-
ter Scott, Mrs. Ivan Wigbtman and ,
Mrs, Stanley Black were named a
committee to select prizes for the
W.I. class in the Belgrave Sehoo.
Fair.
Mrs. Procter gave a short talk
on Health Week which is from
January 31 to February 0.
Mrs. J. M. Coultes was convene!,
of the citizenship program and
the roll call was answered with
"How I can show my appreciation
'of being a Canadian", Mrs. Stan-
ley -Cook gave a reading, "Old
Jane". Mrs. James Michie chose
as her address, "The Life of Rob-
ert Burns" and prior to her ed-
qress• everyone. sang "Annie -Lau-
rie". Mrs. Waiter Pocock. sang
two solos, "A Wee House among
the Heather" and Never Seen
a Family So Stuck TJp".
Mrs. Norman Keating gave the
highlights of the A.C.W.W. and
told of the conference held in Ed:
inburgh last August. Lunch was
-served by Mrs. Walter Scott, Mrs.
-Stanley Black and Mrs. Ivan

BELGRA.VE—The regular meet-
ing of the Hi-C group of the Young
People's of Knox United Church
was held on Sunday evening with
an attendance of 27. - Mrs. Bill
Coultes opened the meeting with. a
sing-song,
Minutes were read by Lorna
Bolt and Cameron Robinson gave
the treasurer's report. The group
planned to hold a skating party
Friday evening with Gorrie and
Bluevale Hi-C groups a.s guests.
Plans were made for future meet-
ings.
Kenneth Coultes was in charge
of the worship service opening with
a hymn., Murray Shiels read the
Scripture lesson and Cameron Rob-
inson took up the offering. This
was followed by prayer, The
meeting closed with a hymn and
prayer by Kenneth Coultes and a
short recreation period was held.
Euchre Ninners
BELGRAVE Earl Noble, of
BlYth, was the novelty prize win-
ner at the regular progressive
euchre party held on Wednesday
evening in the community centre.
There" were six tables in play and
high: prizes wont to Mrs, Earl
Noble and Harold Procter. Consola-
tion prizes went to -Mrs. Clifford
Purdon and Ted Fear.•

ing of the Presbyterian W.M.S.
was held at the church last Thum-
-day afternoon with the new pre-
sident, Mrs, A. Mundell, in charge.
The meeting opened with a call to
worship. and the singing of a
hymn. The Scripture was read
'and Mrs. R. MeKagne led in pray-
er.
Mrs. Ken Dickson gave the story
of the hymn "When I Survey the
Wondrous Cross", composed by
Isaac Watt, 'the noted hymn writ-
er, and the roll call was responded
-to 'by giving ariothef hymn writ-
ten by the same author.
Mrs. W. Darling introduced the
new, study book on Africa and il-
lustrated her talk by using the
large map of the continent which
has been procured for this year's
study.
T. Kennedy gave an in-
teresting -coverage of the annual
Presbyterial in Wingham. The
literature and library secretary had
a display of books for purchase,
Plans Were made, for the World
Day -of Prayer service to be held
in this church this• year, with the
ladies of 11/feint:WI -and Belmore
United Churches assisting. A hymn

Miss Barbara Krug of Wingham
spent the week-end with Miss
Marie Coultas,
Mr. and Mrs. John Durnin, of
Auburn, visited on Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. Orval Taylor.
Women Entertain
At Comity lone
BELGRAVF.- -About 24 members
of the Women's Institute journeyed
to the 'County Home, at Clinton, on
Wednesday afternoon and put- an a
birthday party for all those stay-
ing at the home and having birth-
days in January, of which there
were eleven.
The program included com-
munity singing, vocal solos, vocal
duets, mouth organ selections and
readings. Those celebrating birth-
days were presented -with gifts.
A lunch of sandwiches and birth-
cake was served,

ing of the La Lo Li group of the
Canadian Girls in Training was
held on Friday evening in the
church, opening with the Purpose
and Scripture. Betty Rine. and
Joyce Procter will be in charge of
the worship service for the next
meeting on Thursday evening at
7.30 p.m. The roll call will be
answered with a picture of Africa. aummusionasymouommullsomou Wendy Fear and Linda Johnston
were in charge of the worship ser-
vice last week, opening with the
call to worship by Wendy, 'fol-
lowed by the hymn, "Onward
Christian Soldiers". The Scrip-
ture lesson from Kings was read
by Wendy, and Linda led in prayer.
The group closed the service with
the hymn, "Fairest Lord Jesus".
Questions were given out and the
girls spent some time trying to
answer them. Mrs, Fear read a
story about Africa, on which she
asked questions. The meeting clos-
ed with the singing of Taps.

mont, 17-months-old triplet son of
Mr. and Mrs. James Lamont, is
improving slowly in the Wingham
Hospital after drinking
furniture polish last Monday morn-
ing,
It was faund that the polish con-
tained a poisonous gas, and this
had entered his lungs, causing him
difficulty in breathing and he was
placed in an oxygen tent for
several periods until last Thursday.
