The East Wawanosh 1000 inaug-
ural meeting was held January
11th with all the members. present,
Reeve Hanna presiding. Thu e0t111-
01 subscribed to the oath of office.
Envoy G. Newman of the Wing-
ham Salvation Army Corps ad-
dressed the council and officials
and asked 'divine guidance fox
1960. Reeve Hanna, thanked Mr.
Newman for attending the meeting
He then addressed the council
asking them for the same co-
operation as in 1959,
The minutes of the meeting held
December 15th, 1959, were read
and adopted on motion by Hada-
hari-Bireharian.
(Purdon-McGowan. — That the
council concur with the Town of
Tilbury's resolution requesting
larger grants on arena and corn-,
munity halls,
Buchanan-Purdon---.That mem-
bers on the arena board be Clar-
ence Hanna, Simon Hallahan for
one year, Mason Robinson, Stuart
Proctor and Gordon Peng,ally for
two years.
Buchanan-Hallahan— That Clar- t
ence Hanna and Aldin Purdon be
members of the Wingharn Area
Fire Committee, and Clarence
Hanna and Orval McGowan be
members of the Blyth Area, Fire
Committee,
Buchanan-McGowan--That Clar-
ence Hanna represent the township
on the Middle Maitland Conser-
vation Authority.
Purdan-Hallahan—That the of-
ficials sign the petition for subsidy
on the 1959 road expenditure,

cil pay the Blyth Municipal Tele-
phone System Rates in full,
Five tenders for township asses-
sor were opened ranging from
$390 to $500.00,
Buchanan-Hallahan--That coun-
cil accept Kenneth McDougal's
tender as assessor for the year
1960 at a. salary of $390.00.
By-law for borrowing $50,000.00
from the Canadian Bank of Com-
merce' was read the first and
second times.
Buchanan-McGowan?—That -by-
law No. 1 be read the third time
and passed.
By-law No. 2 confirming the
appointment of an assessor for the,
year 1960, was read the first and
second times.
Hallahan-Purdon—That by-law
No. 2 be read the third time and
passed.
Hallahan-McGowan — That the
treasurer's salary be $525.00, the
collector's salary be $275.00 and the
clerk's salary be $590.00 for the
year 1960, to come in effect Janu-
ary 1st, 1960. A by-law to be' pre-
pared confirming the same,
Purdon-Buchanan — That town-
ship labor receive $1,00 an hour
and the grader operator •receive

DIES IN CRASH
DoNNymtooK—The January
meeting of the W.M.S. and Ladies'
Aid was held Tuesday afternoon
at the home of Mrs. Edward Rob-
inson with a good attendance. Mrs.
Charles Jefferson had charge of
the W.M.S.
The call to worship was givdti
and after singing "Take- Time to ,
Be Holy" Mrs. Hilliard Jefferson
read the _Scripture lessen, The
leader led in prayer, followed by
the Lord's prayer in unison. Mrs.
Sam Thompson read a poem "What
Would He Say?" After reading
a Psalm together, Mrs. Morley
Johnston gave a "New Year's
Wish"..A hymn was sung and
Mrs. William Hardy read a, Herald.
Mrs. Hilliard Jefferson sang a
solo "Near to the Heart of God",
Mrs, Stuart Chamney read a poem
"The Old Year". Mrs, Wesley
Jefferson gave a Christian Stew-
ardship reading about The Kitin-
gate Family in Africa growing
coffee for Ci.nadian trade. .•
Mrs: James Leddy had charge of
the study book and gave a very
interesting view of the chapter,
"On a, Bridge". Mrs. Stewart
Chamney read the minutes of the
December meeting. Business was
attended to and the offering re-
ceived. Mrs. Charles Jefferson
closed the meeting with the bene-
diction.
The Ladies' Aid meeting was In
charge of Mrs. Edward Robinson,
A hymn was sung and Mrs, James
Leddy read the Scripture lesson,
Mrs. Morley Johnston led in prayer
and Mrs, Robinson• read the Min-
utes of the previous meeting,
After singing another hymn Mrs.
Robinson closed the meeting with
prayer.
Lunch was served by the hostess
assisted by Mrs. Sam Thompson
and Mrs, Hilliard Jefferspn. Mrs.
Charles Jefferson invited the
ladies to her home for the Febru-
ary meeting,

visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Clifford Henderson and farriily of
Brucefield, it being the celebration
of two birthdays, Miss Diane
Chamney and:Master Billie Hen-
derson.
Mr, and Mrs. Donald Jeffersdn
and Cheryl of Clinton and Miss
Elaine Jefferson of London visited
with their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Jefferson.
Mr. Bert Thompson has moved
to Wingham to the home of his
brother, Mr. Norman Thompson
and Mrs. Thompson, for the winter
months.
Mrs. Charles . Jefferson and
Elaine visited Saturday with the
former's brother, Mr. Henry Mc-
Clinchey of Auburn.
Mrs. Raymond Finnigan, Mr. and
Mrs, Chester Finnigan and David
of CreWe :visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Sam Thompson and family,
Miss Louise Jefferson of Clinton
.and Mr. Robert Jefferson of
Ridgetown spent the week-end

Icy road conditions took Ike life
of Mrs. James McFarlane,. Brus-
sels, on 'Tuesday night of last
week when the car in which she
was a passenger and her husband
the driver, was in collision with
another vehicle driven by James
Cathers of Ethel, The accident
occurred at the Cranbroolt corner,
three miles east of Brussels.
Rain and freezing drizzle which
fell all day Tuesday had left the
roads in very treacherous condi-
tion and are 'said to have been the
cause of the accident. The McFar-
lane car was travelling west when
'the collision occurred.
Her husband was admitted to the
Wingham - General Hospital with
multiple cuts and lacerations as
well. as Shock,
Mrs. McFarlane is survived by
two daughters, Jean at home and
Mrs. John Fish, London; her mo-
ther, Mrs. Louella Kernaghan of
Brussels; three brothers, John,
Clifford and Lloyd, all of Brus-
sels; and two sisters, Mrs. Earl
Sholdice, Toronto, and Mrs, Gary
Jacklin, Saskatchewan.
Mt. and Mrs. McFarlane farmed
on the ninth concession of Grey,
just outside the village of Brus-
sels. '
