The January meeting of the Wo-
man's Missionary Society .of the
Wingham United Church was held
in the school room and was in
charge of Mrs. 0, Struthers, who
gave the call to worship. The
Scripture was read by Mrs. W.' J.
Brown and prayers were offered
by Mrs. Chamney and Mrs, Mc-
Michael.
In connection with the study of
Africa, which the auxiliaries are
using this year,,Mrs. Struthers had
procured the inspirational audio-
film, "I'll Sing—Not Cry'. This is
a vivid and moving portrayal of the
life of the African before coming
into contact with Christianity. It
shows that in his daily life song
is a constant means of self-ex-
pression in goOd times as well as
in times of suffering, Every crisis
was met by a song, everything ex-
eept. death, When death came, the
song failed them. But when they
came 'to know Christ, a new song
came into their hearts, Death was
no longer a fearful thing,' but
could be met with a song of Chris-
tian hope and joy• It was felt
that it was a great privilege to see
and hear this film which increased
the knowledge and appreciation of
the African spirit.
Mrs. T, Jardin sang the 'approp-
I riate solo, "Why Should I Feel
Discouraged". Mrs. Charriney.spoke
briefly on "Christian Stewardship",
saying that nothing should be al-
lowed to stand 'between us and our
service to God.
The 'reports, for 1959 we're pre-
sented and pointed to the conclu-
sion of a very successful year. The
membership had been increased
rind-the 'financial objective largely
exceeded. The sick and shut-ins
were remembered 'at different
tithes with cards and visits. The
supply secretary reported that 18
cartons of clothing and quilts had
been sent to. Overseas Relief as
well as 17 parcels to Home 11/fis-
sion, the total value being $775.00.
The Expense Fund raised $190.00,
which was used to pay transpor-
tation on hales, gifts to C.G.I.T.
a n 0 CKNX programs, Bibles,
flowers, etc.
The officers for 1660 were in-
stalled by Rev. T. 0. Husser, 'who
stressed the value of the W.M.S.
to` the church and claimed for them
a year of increased usefulness .and
consecration.
In response 'to 'a special appeal a
bale is being sent forward to Ov-
erseas Relief and• =donations will be
Welcomed.
