Village Squire, 1979-12, Page 29UPDATE Chris and Kathleen Gowers have Little Inn gets new owner recently taken over Hayfield's landmark Little Inn. The Little Inn of Bayfield has new owners with plans to change the image of the village from one of a summer resort to that of a year-round spot to escape to from the day-to-day pressure of today's society. The Little Inn in recent years has been beautifully restored and furnished in antiques of an era past, by the former owner. Mrs. Ruth Wallace Brown, recently married to London lawyer Norman Brown. Chris Gowers, the new Innkeeper, together with his wife. Kathleen, have quite a few years' hotel and restaurant experience, gained in a number of first class establishments in Britain, Switzer- land and Canada. Since coming to Canada in 1970. Chris has worked in management positions with the C.N. Hotels in Halifax and St. John's and recently was general manager of Benmiller Inn. The Little Inn. as it is now known, was built in 1862 as a coaching inn and has remained in continuous operation over the years, providing travellers and vacationers alike with good. friendly service. It has particularly been known as a fine place to eat, specializing in home cooked food, reflecting- the local atmosphere. Chris Gowers' aim is to maintain this reputation and. wherever possible, enhance it through one or two ideas which he will be quietly introducing in the upcoming months. The Little Inn consists of two licensed dining rooms and ten bedrooms for overnight guests. The Inn is now open for morning coffee. lunches, afternoon teas and dinner - on Sundays there is a brunch served which is very popular! The most radical change which is planned by Chris and his partners is to extend the Inn's season from a summer one to a year-round one by offering 'mini vacation' packages for people who need to escape and relax in a quiet 'old world' atmosphere. providing good hospitality and service. "We particularly feel the opportunity exists to encourage people to come to Bayfield for such things as cross-country skiing, outdoor skating, ice -fishing or just going for a quiet walk or browsing through an antique shop out of season. But in saying this we know that we have to change a few minds thinking only of it as a beautiful summer resort".
