Over - in Guelph meanwhile Norman
McKay has been chosen as the man to lead
Road Show Theatre out of its current
precarious position and toward a fully -pro-
fessional theatre company. The theatre in
the past has been professional but not a
member of Actors Equity, recognized as
the standard of professionalism. The
theatre has also accumulated a deficit over
its first years of operation.
Mr. MacKay has been Performing Arts
Consultant with the Saskatchewan Arts
Board. providing an evaluation of the
artistic and financial activities of profess-
ional theatre, music, dance and opera
groups in the province. He's also been
director of performing arts operations at
the Art Gallery of Ontario and the
Winnipeg Art Gallery.
The 31 -year-old graduate of the
University of Manitoba and the London
Film School will serve as both producer and
artistic head at Road Show Theatre.
BOTH STRATFORD MUSEUM AND
FRYFOGLE RESTORATION TO GO
AHEAD
Stratford City council and the Perth
County council have come to an agreement
that will see both the Minnie Thomson
Museum and the Fryfogle Inn projects go
ahead.
Work on the restoration of the Fryfogle
Inn east of the city, one of the early inns
serving settlers coming into the Huron
Tract on the Huron Road from Guelph to
Goderich, had been halted earlier this }ear
w lien the city of Stratford backed out on its
pledge to provide funds for the restoration
earlier this year. In a tit-for-tat move the
county then refused to get involved in an
move by the city to buy the Minnie
Thomson Museum from the Thomson
family and prevent it from being dispersed
at auction. The county was then left with an
inn it couldn't afford to renovate and the
city with full share of a museum it only
wanted half of. Biggest loser though was
the Perth County Historical Board which
supported both projects.
Finally, however, the two bodies got
together and worked out an agreement that
will see both projects completed. A revised
scheme for the Fryfogel Inn was accepted
will eliminate $129,000 for the elevator and
kitchen equipment which had been
planned in order to turn the Inn into a
estaurant. The city will now contribrute
$39,300 instead of the $47,000 which had
been its share of the earlier project.
The county in turn will now contribute
toward the $267,600 bill for purchase of the
museum which contains 17,000 artifacts
and seven acres of land.
Advertisements for a director for the
new museum have been placed already. It
is hoped to have the museum open to the
public next summer although long term
development calls for new construction and
improved facilities.
