For those with a taste for homier fare.
Leslie Gurd of The Gentle Rain Natural
Foods will be offering a course in the
preparation of natural and vegetarian
foods. Ms. Gurd's experience includes the
opening and operating of Smale's Pace
Restaurant (now called Change of Pace) in
London. as well as being a baker of whole
grain products in both London and
Stratford. Her course will begin the week
of September nineteenth. and will consist
of six weekly classes held on Tuesday
evenings. Each week the students will
prepare and cat an entire meal. and learn
to cook with whole grains. sprouts.
unrefined oils and sweeteners, and beans
and legumes. Among the topics discussed
will be healthy snacks for children. the
merits of unprocessed foods, new breakfast
ideas and entertaining with natural foods.
Each class is three and a half hours.and the
t'ce for all six sessions is 550.00. For more

Heartier food and uncertain weather
make keeping in shape more of a problem
in the fall and winter months. but courses
at the YMiYWCA can provide an
enjoyable way to stay trim. At the Stratford
Y there arc swimming classes for all ages.
as well as disco dancing. yoga. karate and
judo. Those with back problems might try
the Y's highly successful course on having
a healthier back. Advice on diet and weight
control is offered through Slim Living
courses. which ane followed by separate
exercise classe,ss. thus combining both
aspects of confplete fitness.
An alternative to the more traditional
forms of exercise can be found through
dance classes at the Ann Snider -Tyndale
School of Dance at 42 Wellington Street.
As well as dance for children, the school
offers lessons in beginner's. intermediate
and advanced ballet, jazz. and possibly
tap, all for adults. An exercise class for
women which is oriented towards dance
and work at the barre is available, and
there are plans for a similiar class to be
organized for men. The school emphasizes
the fact that dance is an excellent way to
gain the poise and strength so necessary in
all forms of athletics. A class in ballroom
dancing is also available to adults.
Registration takes place the week of
September third, and classes begin the
following week.
For those who are unable to attend
courses in the Stratford area, try contacting
your local community centre. library or Y.
Many craft shops are willing to give
lessons or could put you in touch with
individual instructors. Finally. if you have
a special talent or skill, you might consider
giving lessons in your field. Knowledge
increases in value when it is shared.D
