UP FRONT
Shorter days, an autumn crispness in the air make people
think about fall and winter clothing. This month Elaine
Townshend polled some of the retailers from around the region
to see what well dressed people would be wearing this season.
Also in the fashion line we see how fashion has helped women
find new careers with a look at partnerships in two clothing
businesses.
There's plenty of trendy fashion on display as well in the
Richmond North area of London, one of the most interesting
shopping areas in Western Ontario. As well as clothing you can
find good eating spots, bookstores, gift shops and many other
kinds of shops with plenty of shopping temptations.
If you're looking for something new in your life that a shopping
trip can't fill, then maybe you should try going back to school if
even for just a short course. Susanne Jones looks at some of the
adult courses available from various sources this fall and winter.
Education and horses go together in another story about how
riding has helped the handicapped cope with life easier. This
month we also take a look at the plans for an arts centre for
Goderich planned for an old livery stable which was saved from
the wrecker's hammer by fast action of a local resident.
In the dining column this month we visit Mother's to sample
the pasta. There's Update, People, Around Town, and much
more.
ATTENTION ARTISTS AND WRITERS
Artists and writers will have a chance to show off their work in
a special Christmas issue of the Village Squire.
Village Squire announces a contest for the best Christmas
short story and the best cover illustration for the Christmas
issue. A first prize of $25 will be offered for each.
The short story should be on a Christmas theme, preferably
oriented to the Western Ontario area. It should be 1000 to 3000
words in length.
The cover should be designed in proportion to the cover size of
the magazine allowing room for the title and other essential
information. It should be in black ink on white although one extra
colour other than black can be used in the printing of the cover.
Deadline for entries to both contests is Nov. 15, 1979.
