Village Squire, 1979-08, Page 18and folk entertainers. Jerry also told me of one success story already. While in a bar in the Kitchener -Waterloo area that specialized in providing Bluegrass entertainment for its patrons, he heard a group called Hot Off The Press. After, a brief introduction, they were invited to perform at Formosa. The Bluegrass fans quickly recognized the talents of this group, and were continually asking for Hot Off The Press to return. This popularity increased, and just recently. Hot Off The Press released an album. 1 also asked Jerry what made the performers want to play at Formosa. "It's simple." Jerry said. "Most of the groups are only performing in the summer, and they long for every chance to appear before a crowd of Bluegrass fans." For several of the performers it's a travelling day on Sunday, and they are returning home from other concerts and hotel engagements in the area." The performers drop in to perform - meeting new friends, sharing their knowledge and experiences of the bluegrass circuit, and many of the musicians enjoy 'jamming' between sets with members from the other groups. I was quickly made aware of the amount of hard work that it took to put on the day long event, and how hard it was to make people aware of the Bluegrass music at Formosa. It took a while, but the mass coverage of the area with posters. and the Pickin In The Pines draws large crowds of enthusiastic Bluegrass fans to Palace Gardens Park, Formosa. Over 1500 fans showed up to hear Dennis LePage and Station Road, on stage here, and mane other excellent Bluegrass bands.
