Summer is a busy time in Western Ontario. Suddenly there are
so many things to see, so many places to go.
And with the kids home from school you need plenty of variety
in plates to go. With that in mind Village Squire this month took
a look at a few places you might want to try to keep children
entertained and perhaps inform them at the same time. All are
inexpensive and all are in Western Ontario.
Another inexpensive, informative and entertaining place to
visit is the new Lambton County Historical Museum just south of
Grand Bend. In this most modern of the region's museums one
can discover much of the history common to the whole region and
some things specific to the Lambton county area from early
beachwear at Grand Bend to an early slaughter house.
If you'd like to see some art this summer you might find your
way to Gallery 96 in a little back alley just off Ontario Street to
see the work of various Perth County and regional artists on
display in this co-operative gallery.
Wingham is having its Centennial Celebrations centred
around the Civic Holiday this year and part of the celebration will
be the last reunion of the CKNX Barn Dance gang from the
legendary barn dance of the 1940's and 50's.
Ever had the urge to run a marathon? Well a former Goderich
township man has and last year competed in one of the world's
most prestigious marathon events. Elaine Townshend tells his
story.
And if you have a yen for some exotic places, our travel column
gives the first of a two-part tour of the far East by Mildred
McAdam. And to tickle your palate our restaurant review deals
with the delight of a visit to The Waterlot in New Hamburg.
