Village Squire, 1979-04, Page 23were five in the Industrial league, but it
was better than not playing hockey at all. It
only took one game though before it
became obvious the merger wasn't going
to work out. Father Poloski was refereeing
a game between the United Church
Choirboys and the Hamilton Packers
Butcherboys.
Well Rev. Twickle was going in on goal
on.a breakawa; when Hank Skullthumper,
a wringer the Butcherboys had brought in
from the Blockwell Lumber Company,
jumped off the bench and levelled Twickle
with a stick right across the head. After
he'd brought Rev. Twickle around, Father
Poloski gave Skullthumper a penalty and
Skullthumper got real mad. What for? he
asked. The Father gave him what for and
Skullthumper said that in this league there
wasn't a penalty for that. The rules were
different here, he said and he said some
things to the Fabler that I wouldn't even
want to confess to understanding.
Anyway. the Butcherboys won the game
because when Skullthumper got through
there were only three Choirboys left who
could still skate. The real clincher was
when the Butcherboys demanded that Rev.
Twickle and his team treat the victors to a
round at the Lamplighter Hotel as was the
long custom of the league.
So much for the meek inheriting the
earth.
