Fridays are reserved for special outings, which have included
thus Lir trips to Doon Pioneer Village. the Toronto Museum. a
beach near Grand Bend and a performance in London by Raffle -
a childrens' singer.
The parents finance the school paying $60 tuition a month for
each child. Seven families are involved with 10 children
attending the school.
The parents also provide transportation to and from school. A
car pool brings several children from the Mitchell area. while
parents drive another child from Tavistock. The rest of the
students live in Stratford.
In addition. each parent spends a half day each week at the
school. In the morning. the parent is in charge of the younger
children, v: hide the teacher instructs the older ones. In the
afternoon• he or she supervises all the children. while the
teacher attends to paperwork.
Eric Eberhardt is one of the parents who helped to organize
the school. He says all the children seem to be enjoying the
experience and benefiting from the individual attention they
receive. Being able to work at their own pace is another asset.
They arc also learning about responsibility and helping each
ot her.
"I think it's good for them to see the involvement of the
parents." says Mr. Eberhardt and he adds. "Our parent/teacher
meetings are unique in that parents have direct input."
All the children agree they like the school. When asked what
they like doing best. their reply is unanimous. "playing dress
up!..
But they also remember two fall outings, one to an apple
