Village Squire, 1978-10, Page 17they're a damn nuisance".
He stooped. picked up the piece and wondered whether to tell
the man that he'd cut it off accidentally or that it just 'fell off'.
"He's sure to blame me whichever" Harvey thought "Oh
cripes! What can I do? The Patron Saint of Lousy Barbers came
once more to the rescue of Harvey and put a certain thought into
his mind.
He thought he'd stick the piece back where it belonged using
some special glue called Soopergoo, a tiny tube of which he
happened to have in his odds and ends drawer. He rummaged in
the drawer. found the Soopergoo. took off the screw cap and
dabbed a smidgen of the stuff (as per instructions) on to the fat
end of the endpiece. Standing behind Big Jons head, with the
forefinger of his left hand at the ready. Harvey placed the
v. ingless tip to within a fraction of a fraction of a inch of the
tipless y: ing then jabbed his left forefinger into his clients left
cheek. The automatic reflex of Big Jon's head served to re -unite
the y ing with its severed tip---
" What on earth are you doing Mr. Barber?" Big Jon asked.
"Just testing to see if the towel was still hot Harvey replied.
"Well it isn't- could you get on with it please?"
"Certainly Sir" said Harvey and took off the towel. picked up
his 'little beauty' and got on with it.
During the course of the shave Harvey happened to glance
aslant in the long wall to wall mirror and saw that the other
barbers. Peter Van. Art Mohr, and Bob Lesse. all now clientless.
were watching what he was doing. He was left in no doubt either
that they'd seen hint doing what he'd already done because
Peter grinned. pointed a forefinger at Harvey and pulled an
imaginery trigger. Bob grinned and made a punching gesture
with his own fist on his own chin; Art also grinned and twiddled
the ends of a non-existent moustache villainously. Harvey
grinned back at them all. put a shushing finger to his lips. gave
one sly wink to share among them. and got on with the shaving.
When he'd finished the shave and his client was back on his
feet Harvey was surprised by compliments.
