UP FRONT
One of the biggest exhibitions in the province comes to
Western Ontario later this month when the International Plowing
Match is staged near Wingham. This month we give you a little
idea of what to expect when the tented city opens up Sept. 26 and
something of the years of work that go into making this annual
event successful.
Speaking of successful, after nearly two years The Book Shop
in St. Marys could be termed successful. if not in the sense of
making a lot of money, at least in the sense of giving its owner
Margaret Johnston and book lovers in the area a lot of pleasure
from good books.
A lot of pleasure has also been provided by Arie van der Ende
with his paintings. Arie left the world of business for the world of
art and he's glad he did. So are admirers of his work.
In our business column this month, Frances Barrick examines
the success of the community credit union, as best exemplified
by the Clinton Community Credit Union and its enormous growth
in the past 26 years.
There's the People column and Update and Theatre and of
course the dining column and some fiction. In all. we hope you'll
find some good entertainment for those lazy September
afternoons.
OOPS!
The ultimate mistake you can make in print is spelling
somebody's name wrong. It's even worse if you spell it wrong in
a headline. Well we goofed all over the place last month in the
spelling of Crafty Anty in the story on that Kincardine shop. We
knew it was spelled differently than one would think and even
looked it up but still got it wrong. It was one of those cases where
you say to yourself "I know it's spelled the opposite way I think
it's spelled but which way is the way I think it's spelled so I can
spell it the opposite." Well we got it wrong anyway. although no
one pointed out our mistake to us. We found the goof ourselves
and we apologize ourselves.
WRITERS
On the final page of this issue there is a small advertisement
from Village Squire inviting enquiries about being feature
writers for the magazine. In our constant efforts to improve the
magazine we're looking for people to write monthly article on
such topics as sports. music, art, business, youth, night clubs for
the magazine. The pay isn't big, but the reward of meeting
people and telling their stories can go a long way. If you're
interested see the ad and let us know.
