BLYIH
SIMMER
FESTIVAL
The Huron Tiger
Tiger Dunlop, the outrageously eccentric founder of the town of
Goderich, is the boisterous hero of this rough and tumble saga of the wild
days of the Canada Company and the settlement of Ontario. Both a
literary gentleman and a back woods brawler, Dunlop is the stuff legends
are made of. Peter Colley, of London, Ontario, author of "The
Donnellys", brings the legend to life in this often hilarious play about the
gigantic Scot of fiery temperment and blazing wit. After opening up the
wilderness, Dunlop became the champion of the settlers and fought for
their rights in the rip roaring election campaigns of pioneer politics. The
whole family will enjoy the story of the stormy career that made him one
of the most colourful M.P.'s in Canadian history -known throughout the
Dominion as the Huron Tiger. July 7, 8, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20(2:00), 22, 24.
27, 28, Aug. 2, 10, 18, 24 (2:00), 26.
His Own Boss
Keith Roulston, the author of "The Shortest Distance Between Two
Points" that had last season's audiences rolling in the aisles, has
sharpened his pen again to poke fun at the foibles of our society. This
time bureaucracy, human nature and politics combine to prevent a man
from minding his own business. An assembly line worker, who thinks his
dearest dream has come true when he inherits his uncle's cheese factory
and secretary, is the hero/victim of this very funny and all too lifelike
satire. The entire family will be laughing from beginning to surprise
ending. July 11, 12, 13 (2:00), 15, 17, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27(2:00), 29, Aug. 3,
4, 16, 17(2:00).

The School Show
Ted Johns, whose memorable performances in "He Won't Come In
From The Barn" and "The Farm Show" delighted Western Ontario
audiences, has written and is performing a humorous and provocative
show about what is happening in our schools. The hopes and fears of
modern educators, and the concerns of the public are explored in an
understanding and amusing look at the problems that produced the
Great Teachers Strike of '78. Who 'dun' it?
Is there a villian? Ted, a native of this region, spins a heart stirring, side
splitting tale that provides insight into this important issue. Every
member of the family (and who has the Strike not touched?) will enjoy
"The School Show". August 1, 3(2:00), 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 22.
Gwendoline
Gwendoline by James Nichol, is the enchanting story of a very special
and gentle woman, who lives in a world of her own creation. Her strange
and innocent beauty fascinates those who come in contact with her,
arousing love and jealousy among her neighbours in the small town of
Kingforks. The intrusion of a stranger who threatens to take Gwendoline
from a sensitive, young admirer outrages the community and disrupts
the normally well ordered lives of the townspeople. This poignant drama
explores the conflict between innocence, righteousness and guilt,
revolving around an entrancing heroine you'll long remember. August 9
10 (2:00), 12, 15, 19, 21, 24, 25.
Two Miles Off
Small towns all over share many of the same problems in our modern
society. In this play a small Alberta town, two miles off the main highway
struggles to survive. Playing Aug. 23 and Aug. 28 to Sept. 2.
