passion against a background of political
intrigue in 17th century France of Cardinal
Richelieu and King Louis XIII. Opens June

8 (2 p.m.)
THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR:
Shakespeare's play about two merry,
middle-class wives and their confederates
who prove more than a match for the
aging, aristocratic Sir John Falstaff opens
June 6 at the Festival stage. Also plays
June 10 (2 p.m.) 14 (2 p.m.) 17, 21 (2 p.m.)
23, 27, 28, July 1, 2 (2 p.m.), 5 (2 p.m.),
7,9.
UNCLE VANYA: Chekhov's most tender
comedy of longing and hope, will open at
the Avon June 7 at 2 p.m. Also plays June
10, 15, 18 (2 p.m.), 22, 25, 28 (2 p.m.) July
1 (2 p.m.), 4.
MACBETH: One of Shakespeare's most
powerful tragedies sees the return of
Douglas Rain to the Festival stage opening
June 7 at 8 p.m. Also June 10, 15, 18, 22,
25, 28 (2 p.m.) July 1 (2 p.m.), 4.
CANDIDE: Voltaire's masterpiece about
innocence and hypocrisy is set to music
by Leonard Bernstein. It will appear at
both the Festival and Avon stages, starring
Edward Evanko, Mary Lou Fallis and
Andrea Martin. It opens at 2 p.m., June 8
at the Avon and plays there June 13, 16,
21, 24 (2 p.m.), 30, July 2, 6, and 8. It's
also at the Festival stage June 25 at 2 p.m.
THE WINTER'S TALE: Shakespeare
draws from the world of fable, where
benevolent forces in the universe work
towards man's ultimate good in this story
that will play at the Festival stage opening
June 8. It will also play June 13, 16, 21, 24
(2 p.m.), 30, July 2, 6, 8.
JUDGEMENT: One-man show starring
Richard Monette as the sole survivor of a
group of Russian officers locked in a cell by
their German captors in the last weeks of
World War 2. It opens at the Avon at 2
p.m. on June 9 and continues June 14, 24,
28, July 9 (2 p.m.).
AS YOU LIKE IT: A revival of the popular
1977 production which brought high praise
for Maggie Smith. It opens June 9 at the
Festival stage and continues June 14, 17 (2
p.m.), 20, 24, 29, July 5, 8 (2 p.m.).
HELOISE AND ABELARD: A tale of a love
affair between a great scholar and his pupil
set in the Middle Ages. It will open June 17
at the Avon at 2 p.m. and play June 21 (2
p.m.), July 5 (2 p.m.).

NED AND JACK: Sheldon Rosen's play
about John Barrymore and Edward
Sheldon, two of the most flamboyant
figures on Broadway in the early decades
of the century opens June 30 at Third
Stage. It also plays July 6 and 8.
MEDEA: Larry Fineberg tackles once
again the Jegendary sorceress of Greek
Mythology in his new adaptation of the tale
which opens at Third Stage on July 1 at 2
p.m. Also July 4 and July 9 (2 p.m.).

most popular plays opens the season at the
Huron Country Playhouse, Grand Bend
