To list all the activities of Klondike Days
in detail would fill a small book. So here's
just a brief rundown of other happenings:.
A Band Extravaganza, featuring some of
the finest marching bands in North
America; free entertainment on stage daily
at noon at various locations in the
downtown core; a daily Fun Tub Derby
with drivers of questionable skill piloting
rather unusual machinery; Garden Parties
on the grounds of the Legislature, site also
of the Great Tray Races (object of the event
is to race across the lawns carrying trays
laden with mugs of beer, without spilling
the suds); a Klondike style decathlon
featuring rocklifting, arm and leg -wrest-
ling, flour -packing, log -chopping etc.
Taking place at the same time as
Klondike Days is the annual Edmonton
Exhibition with games of chance, a huge
midway and all the carnival trimmings.
There's a gambling casino and the thrill of
thoroughbred racing at Northlands Park
which borders the midway. A must for the
youngsters is a miniature version of the
Chilkoot Mine where you can actually pan
for real gold nuggets. And there's more,
much more like the Coliseum of Stars,
featuring top performers from around the
world, agricultural exhibits and events, a
Klondike Village and Klondike Mike's
Saloon.
Launching Klondike Days and the
Exhibition is a giant parade with 90 entries
ranging from marching bands, to floats,
and clowns --it's a color spectacular that
takes an hour and a half to pass any given
point.
