Village Squire, 1978-03, Page 12The trend today is to suits that are off the rack, Jack says. The
younger generation is moving more in that direction and Jack
has been moving with them. He carries more stock in his store
than he used to, he says. In addition, using sample materials he
can have a stock suit made up in a special material by the factory.
Normally this takes four weeks but a rush job can take three.
Still made -to -measure gives the greatest variety and
individuality, he says. You can have your choice of 300-400 kinds
of materials and various styles. Not many stores can carry that
kind of selection, he says.
There have been three generationsvf Youngs in the clothing
business in Sebringville but this will likely be the last. His son.
Jack says, is not interested in carrying on the family business.
There aren't many inducements to encourage young people to
get into business for themselves. these days. So in future there
will likely come a day when there will be no Young the Tailor in
Sebringville and the village won't quite be the same.
Tips on what to look
for in a suit
What should you look for iii a suit?
Jack Young gives a few tips in choosing the best material.
Wool is still in a class by itself as far as suits go, he says
although there's a lot of blending of wool and polyester being
done today. .
A good suit material should have some weight. There should
be a good twist to the yarn in a smooth finish worsted suit.
A soft material with a mill finish is very nice, he says. but it
won't hold a crease.
