Village Squire, 1978-04, Page 17Anstett is also a member of the Canadian Jewellers
Association and the Canadian Gemmological Society.
While Mr. Anstett is appreciative of his family's involvement
in the company, he is also extremely aware of the important role
his staff has played in the success of his business.
"I have had a fantastic staff and in essence I could not do it
alone." he said. 'The staff deserves an awful lot of credit."
Two long-time staff members are William Bakelaar, a
watchmaker who has been with the company for 27 years, and
Helen MacLean, a sales clerk of 23 years.
According to Mr. Anstett, the majority of the store's business
comes within a 50 -mile radius, with the balance of customers
living outside the immediate area like Toronto, Ottawa, and the
United States.
Mr. Anstett said customers come from a long distance because
of advertisements in the media, and word of mouth.
"The big thing in the jewelery business," he said, "is its
prestige. which takes years to build up and for people to gain
confidence in a business."
"I feel in the jewelery business. it takes years to build it up.
more so than in a grocery store or clothes store or any other type
of business."
For Mr. Anstett, who is now selling diamond rings to children
of people who were his customers 25 years ago, a jewelery
business mushrooms on a reputation of service and professional
knowledge.
"We are trying to better the business all the time with new
equipment and taking on extra staff and training them," said
Mr. Anstett. "and all this goes to improving the business."
For the future. Mr. Anstett has no definite plans for
expanding.
"Possibly we may expand more. but it certainly would not be
into the cities," said Mr. Anstett. who enjoys small town living.
And as for his family members. there are always more courses
to take.
