Village Squire, 1978-04, Page 15"To identify a ruby. emerald or any gem requires specific
scientific knowledge," said David. "There is no room here for
guesswork." he added, for because a gem is red. it does not
necessarily mean it is a ruby because of all the synthetics now on
the market.
To make a piece of jewelry' like a diamond ring, necklace or
earrings. the loose gem is mounted in a pre -made gold setting.
The settings are currently made by a goldsmith in Toronto.
If the customer is not satisfied with any of the available
merchandise. the store will either alter a piece of jewelry in
stock, or. in consultation with the customer, draw a design of the
requested item. and send the drawing to the Toronto goldsmith.
The piece of jewelry will then be made to the customer's
specifications.
