Village Squire, 1978-04, Page 12The circulation of the magazine is small by magazine
standards but readers over the years have proven tremendously
Loyal. recommending the magazine to friends. sending in notes
with suggestions and comments and generally taking an active
part in the magazine.
The magazine has in general not been a controversial
publication but in one area it has had a fair share of conflict:
restaurant reviews. Harsh reviews. (or those thought to be
harsh) have brought threats of law suits and physical violence
from angry restaurant owners at various times. So far. none of
the threats have been followed through on.
What's in the future? Well. it is expected that the next le'.
months will see an expansion of the number of pages per issue.
The circulation is expected to grow and the area of coverage will
be expanded. One of the areas of concentration has been on -
improving listing of events in the region through the Around
Town section. It hasn't always been easy since some o‘. tiers and
managers don't take advantage of the opportunity to list their
upcoming events even though this service is offered free for the
information of our readers.
To a great extent the success of the magazine in the future %. ill
depend on the same things as the success of the past: the
enthusiasm of the readers of the magazine. The management of
Village Squire regards the publication as more than just a
business but a kind of co-operative venture by v. ricers. and
readers, ad salesmen and ad buyers to upgrade the knowledge of
Western Ontario people about their own surroundings. The
magazine is based on the belief that Western Ontario is a very
special and exciting place to live. It vias founded on the belief
and five years later it seems even more true than it was in 1973.
Western Ontario just keeps getting better all the time. and the
aim of Village Squire is to help people stay abreast of the
changes. 0
