Winter has its good side, and its bad side and we've had a
little of both this month.
The bad side is that winter storms don't do anything to help
the production of a monthly magazine that depends on extensive
travel as Village Squire does. This issue of the magazine was to
go to press in mid-December due to all the holidays during its
regular production period. But it was also a pretty mean time in
early December for storms. Mail service was spotty. It was
impossible to travel and all in all a heck of a time to try to get
things done.
The result is that some changes had to be made in plans for the
January issue. Our regular daytripping feature, for instance, has
been postponed until spring when we hope weather conditions
will have improved. Getting information for the Around Town
section was hard because of the mail situation and we had to
change plans for several features. In all, it isn't a very auspicious
start to a new year.
Despite the problems, we think you'll find plenty to enjoy in
this month's issue. On the good side of winter we've got Winter
Memories about the joys of winter for a child. Adrian Vos tells us
about a Remarkable Woman, and one he should certainly know a
lot about.
For those who like cheese the name Pine River is well known.
The little cheese factory west of Ripley near the shore of Lake
Huron is famous for its cheese and every year thousands flock to
its retail outlet to buy. We've got a story on the operation.
Our dining column this month looks at a family restaurant
\ vhile Update and People columns provide information on
interesting people and happenings around western Ontario. All
in all, some good reading in case you get stuck in another
snowstorm.
