The Smith Jewellery store is housed in an impressive old
building that has been a jewellery store since construction.
meeting. He feels this is perhaps because they're uncertain
about the market and don't want to gear up for long runs on
items they feel might not sell.
To meet the demand he's been getting into custom made
jewellery for men, buying chains and jewels and charms and
assembling them. He feels the field is wide open for the small
crafter to get in and meet the demand that large manufacturers
aren't.
The Griffins have come to love the country living and
wouldn't want to go back to the city, even though trying to get
the seven miles back and forth to work last winter caused many a
problem for Mike last year. The family raises goats and chickens
on their little farm and he had to get home to make sure the goats
would have enough feed. It often meant a round -about route just
to get near the farm then a mile -long walk, often pulling feed
with him for the goats. It got to be a long trip because he often
also carried provisions for neighbours and the storm -stayed
neighbours were in a talkative mood when he stopped in.
Still life in the country is one he likes and he's planning
expanding by getting more goats which he raises simply for the
meat since he doesn't want the milking of goats to tie the family
down too much.
Mike Griffin is living proof that there need be nothing boring
about small town life. He has so many interests, one wonders
when he finds time for them all.
