UP FRONT
Village Squire this month travels far and wide in Western
Ontario to try to bring you some interesting information.
The daytripping column this month takes a journey to Elora, a
pl _asant place to visit anytime, but with Christmas approaching,
it's a gold mine of ideas with its dozens of small shops. Our
dining column too visits an Elora restaurant, and an unusual one
at that.
From one stone town to another, this time St. Marys where
one of the original small shop owners there has recently moved
into a new business taking a lot of his old interests with him. The
man is Mike Griffin who began The Rare Bird two years ago and
now has bought out Smith Jewellers.
For our other main feature story this month it's over to
Goderich where artist Mona Mulhern is working hard to
establish herself not just with the local people, but in the major
art centres such as London and Toronto.
And Elaine Townshend introduces us to a Bayfield man who
has turned inventor with a handy gadget for those who travel.
Our television column looks at the CFPL Morning Break
program and the influence on it made by former CKNX morning
man Jim Swan.
In the Press column, controversial London Free Press theatre
critic explains his interpretation of the role of the critic in
theatre, an interpretation that may surprise some of his enemies.
It's a full issue and we hope you enjoy it. Oh yes, and there's a
letter to the editor criticizing an earlier dining column. We
welcome both criticism and compliments and wish we'd hear
more of your thoughts.
