Canadians in recent years have become more and more
aware of their history. One of the results has been an
avalanche of historic site markings, heritage buildings,
histories and museums.
This month two of the area's smaller museums are given
special attention by Debbie Ranney. Fryfogel's Inn is one of
the oldest buildings in Western Ontario. It was built to serve
the original settlers coming along the Huron Road into the
Huron Tract. Today it is a museum east of Stratford.
A newer museum is the Wingham Museum opened
officially only this year to serve as a gathering place for the
memorabilia of the town which will celebrate its 100th
anniversary in 1979.
And speaking of things old, we have an article this month
on a new publication that deals with things old: a new
newspaper on antiques published from Mitchell.
Looking to the future, The Stratford Festival has capped its
25th anniversary season with an announcement of a new
complex that will spell new directions for the Festival.
Also in Stratford, we have a look at Art in the Park, the
summer open air art gallery on view every Sunday afternoon
...for free.
And there's much much more, from the dining column to
