In his 80's Jack has continued to keep a pace that would stagger many a person half his age. Though a Torontonian for most of his life, he became a true resident of Western Ontario since retiring to his riverside home. His retirement years have been full of creative activity as he paints from morning to night. This summer, Mr. McLaren has had cause to remember times in the spring of his life, with the opening of the musical show The Legend of the Dumbells at the Charlottetown Festival. He was one of the members of that famous World War I entertainment troupe. He wrote, as well as performed many of the sketches in the shows and two of those sketches are contained in the new show. We learn more about Mr. McLaren and the Dumbells inside this issue. Summer is fun time and tourist time and Grand Bend has long been one of the main centres along Lake Huron for combining both. We take a look in pictures at the town. Towns and villages in this area continue to celebrate their anniversaries. Last month we told of Goderich's celebration of 150 years since discovery and this month we have a story on Blyth's celebration of 100 years since it was incorporated as a village. And of course there's much more, and we hope you'll enjoy this issue and will take advantage of the many many things to do in a Western Ontario summer.
